How long should I keep an active candidacy open?

I am new to Upwork and don't have a work history yet. I received a request for an interview for a job that  I did not submit a proposal on.  I was asked to e-mail another person for next steps (I asked about this in a previous request in the forum.). I e-mailed the contact person to set up an interview time, which he did. Right before the interview, I received an e-mail that stated he was held up in a meeting and would reach out as soon as possible. I did not hear back from him so I sent a follow-up message. He responded telling me that the role was currently on hold and that he had an influx of candidates. He said he would check back with me after the weekend-- which I doubt. I checked Upwork and it appears there are over 50 proposals submitted for the position.

How do I handle this? Do I withdraw the active candidacy? The client does have a verified payment method and good reviews. Any advice and input would be greatly appreciated.

Just leave it open, it is not hurting you, and the client may pop up again in due course.

I forget about them and just react as and when they resurface.

There is no harm in leaving it open, if the client appears again when you are too busy just decline it then.

I did not know if someone could find a job as quick as it is on upwork. I submitted a proposal at 3:49 PM and the client replied at the same time. unfortunately I did not see her message. I see her message after 1 day. I write her but she has not replied yet. Should I stay in expatation on her?
