Ask the clients to close the contracts. If they don't respond, then close them yourself.
If you can manage it, close only one or two at a time, interspersed with other contracts that are closed by clients with feèdback present.
I am plagued by this too. Recently, I had 3 new contracts where the clients only asked for a couple of articles and then became unresponsive. I want to close them myself but am leery of doing so because it might impact my top-rated status. Upwork should close inactive contracts after X number of months, without the clients being able to affect the contractor's scores, because they (the clients) did not prove themselves to be worthy clients.
