I cannot find MYSELF when searching MY Name in freelancers

Hello, I am hoping someone can help me here. I was on the quest today to update my profile and went to search to see what keywords pull me up in a search. To no avail, nothing, then I searched my full name,Grace Halligan, NOTHING, I went through 5 pages of the first name Grace and NOTHING. I then Used Grace H, NOTHING- I tried My full name with keywords from my current profile and NOTHING. I vanished! 2 weeks ago I was getting invitations and gained 2 contracts but I keep getting my STATS notifications that my profile discovery has gone down. I understand that UpWork rotates profiles but why would I have vanished and why does that count against me if this 'algorithm' is off?

Can someone please assist me? I checked my profile and it is set to Public! Thanks in advance!

Grace

Grace: searching for oneself on Upwork is a rabbit hole.

I think most of us try when we are brand new to the site, but then give up after we realize that search here isn't like search elsewhere. For one thing, search results are intentionally rotated.

Searching for oneself has no value. I am sure if your talked to most successful freelancers here, they would tell you they don't do it.

I am also noticing that ALTHOUGH in my profile setting I have it selected to show my full last name, it does not...Is that an issue?

I am also facing the same problem. I tried searching my account from 2 different upwork accounts of my friends but I wasn’t anywhere on the list. I have been sending in proposals too but haven’t gotten any reply for them either. Idk what went wrong. It seems I just vanished for others.

You can be found in searches, you are just in a hugely overcrowded category with thousands of freelancers and have no earnings, no feedback etc, so you won't appear very high in searches very often. Until you are well established, don't expect to win work from invites very often, you'll have to improve your proposals and your profile as they are curretly obviously not doing the trick.

Can you think of any reason why a client would run a search for your name?

Yes, I could.

Grace, I have also searched for my name is exactly the way you describe: my full name, just my first, name, key words, etc., and have found nothing. I've also set my profile to show my full name but it doesn't; it just shows my first name and last initial. This question has apparently been asked for years and there is no clear answer to it.

Hi Jack and Grace,

That option is only for your Search Engine Privacy. You can choose whether or not you’d like your last name shown in full when you appear in search engine results. Upwork displays only your first name and first initial of your last name in order to protect your privacy. Your full name will become visible to your client after you and your client have started interviewing.

You clearly have hidden business reasons to obfuscate search by name.

Why would a client search by a freelancer's name?

If a client already knows a freelancer, the freelancer can provide a link directly to their profile page?

Today I tried to search my name in Upworks but it did not display my name even my profile setting is set as "public".  Any idea why is this ? Just wondering there might be other members too facing the same issue?

Your profile shows when searching by name. Your probably searched using your full name, but Upwork uses your profile name (Chandra K P) throughout the platform.

Searching by name verifies your profile appears in search results, but it is not very helpful since clients do not search for freelancers by name. Most clients will search by skill category or keyword and include other parameters like Location, Job Success, etc.
