I ended a contract prematurely

Hello,

I recently started an hourly contract with a client for 20$/hour. However, it was a mistake and I canceled it before starting to put any working hours. I didn't get any money because I didn't work and I cannot give a refund to the client. However, my client told me that he already paid.

I don't understand how this is possible as I don't have acces to the client's interface.

Is this true? Did the client get charged? If yes, is he going to get his money back?

How "recently"?

I started it Saturday and closed it yesterday.

Then the client has not been charged anything. 

If you had logged hours, the client would be charged this afternoon UTC.
