I guess Upwork is managed by biased people.

I created my upwork account in 2015. Since then, I never got any job on this platform. I created project last month, never approved. Not event told the reasons why not approved! I modified it but in vain. Could not understand this (upwork) platform. I am also using **Edited for Community Guidelines** for last 10 months, get jobs easily. But on upwork ...!!!

Shahid, they do provide a reason and detailed explanation of what caused the rejection. In my case, they also offered a TIP to source a proper project cover image.

You are looking at the wrong place. You are looking in notification area, you need to check email as well

Hi Piotr O.

Thank you. I agree as you described , is very concise and beautifully clear the point. I wish upwork team also agree and realize the facts you mentioned.

Thanks.

I don't know why the projects are not getting approved, but I wouldn't really worry too much about it. Projects offer services for a fixed price, which is not suitable for translation work, since each and every text has a different wordcount, which will need to be calculated with your rate per word individually for every case.

The problem with somebody (such as the original poster) claiming that Upwork is "biased"...

Is that this argument is so worn out, and so over-used, that I think most normal people just tune it out.

Or roll their eyes.

Or automatically assume that the person making the claim is a scammer or scoundrel.

It's "the boy who cried wolf."

We've seen it so much, that even if there is some validity to it, we assume it's not true.

No there is no such thing, there are literally 1000s of freelancers from Pakistan in particular and the Indian subcontinent, in general, earning millions of dollars (combined) each year!

Hi Ashraf K.

Yes. You are right, there may be 1000s of ... But I already mentioned my personal experience and feeling, why I posted this in this forum. Please try to understand the actual issue.

Thanks.

I replied to your other reply showing the rejection notification, please refer to that I posted the email I received giving a clear reason why it was rejected and how to fix it.

I think you should just edit your post title and rephrase it, in a manner that will encourage the forum members to offer advice, guidance, and help!

Being fairly successful here I know there is no truth to your claim! But out of curiosity and since the thread gained so much action in a short time I did a little research and found this...

For the keyword "Financial Analysis" out of the first 8 results, 6 are Pakistani Freelancer profile, 1 I Bangladeshi and the other 1 is Egyptian. Here is the link and image. Results for "financial analysis" | Upwork

ashrafkhan81_0-1642607132267.png

Now I can confidently say there is no Bias towards Nationality or religion! All first 8 freelancers are Muslims! All of them!

So that clears two things: Upwork is not biased towards approving profiles or projects and also not biased in ranking profiles. And looking at the success of many profiles from Pakistan, we can conclude even the clients are not biased towards hiring a Pakistani freelancer. Especially in the light of so much negative press Pakistan gets on a regular basis!

I think your post and choice of words is intentional to bring out strong emotions and reaction from the community.

Instead, you should focus on developing an appealing profile and get creative in marketing yourself (proposal + profile)

I will add one more BURN, your specialty is English URDU translation. Anyone looking for such translation will be naturally inclined toward hiring a Pakistani person because Pakistan is the only country that has URDU as the official language and has the highest % of URDU speaking population than any other country!

So not being hired is your failure!

To recap: OP complains about upwork being biased. Turns out, OP didn't read the communication upwork sent him. OP accepts his own answer as solution.

Yep, time well spent.

Bodes well for someone wanting to be a translator...OP, this is advice, not an insult, you need to learn to be more detailed otherwise, provided you do land clients here on Upwork, you will have more problems completing work to their satisfaction.

Shahid:
I have no doubt that you were sincere in your original post, in expressing how you felt about some things.

I appreciate the fact that you were willing to listen and learn.

It sounds like you have the right attitude for success.
