I'm erroneously flagged as a non-native English speaker

I'm new to Upwork and trying to apply for jobs. I keep getting a message saying I don't meet the client's preferences because I'm not a native English speaker. In fact, I'm a born-and-bred American and speak no other languages. I can't figure out how this error has occurred. Upwork "Help" is COMPLETELY UNHELPFUL. I've been asking for help for days and I get crickets. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Hi Robin,

This may be because currently your profile states that you are fluent in English but not a native English speaker. You can change this setting by following the instructions outlined here. Hope that helps!
