I took a position with a company and/or individual by the name of **Edited for Community Guidelines**, he/they also use other names like **Edited for Community Guidelines** being one and **Edited for Community Guidelines** being another. They are seeking people to make secret shopper calls to private health insurance companies (the big boys).
I am not looking for anything like advice or resolution, rather I just want to make sure nobody else falls for their offer and ends up with no $$ like me.
Good luck all with your pursuits - just avoid this one

Make sure next time that you have a formal Upwork contract in place. It is against Upwork's ToS to communicate with a client off site before you have a contract and to agree to be paid away from the site.
Have a look at the first post by Jeanne H. in this thread - the links are useful, particularly the link to "Wes", which gives a run down on many of the scams here and on the internet. https://community.upwork.com/t5/Freelancers/To-all-freelancers-looking-for-help/td-p/1222058

Thank you for sharing your firsthand experience.
The good news is that you learned from your mistakes and you won't make those same mistakes again in the future.
