Chad, you're doing it all wrong.
Imagine that the clients paid you $20,000 and then you paid Upwork $2,000 (because that's exactly what happened, even though you don't see it)
Would we even be having this conversation?
It sounds like you're mixing personal deductions and business, and you don't seem to understand that you need to file Schedule C (which means you may be unaware of self-employment taxes in addition to missing deductions)
You should really get help with this before you either pay a lot of money unnecessarily or inadvertantly commit tax fraud.
