Invitations are still not what they used to be

Hello,

I'm a top-rated freelancer, and from early 2019 to about August 2019, I used to get at least 1 invitation a day...sometimes as many as 3 invites a day.

Since August, there has been a sharp decline, and I'm still not back to what I used to be. I just checked and I received 7 invitations in 90 days. It's been around this number since August.

I heard (on this forum), that the algorithm cycles freelancers every so often so that all freelancers get a chance. I also heard on this forum this cycle happens every 5 to 7 weeks. Well, it's been alot longer and I've been waiting patiently. I also heard clients aren't sending as many invites because they have to pay to send more than X number of invites. I'm not buying that because I have heard from freelancers (on this forum) say they get the number of invites that I used to get. Also, plenty of clients (including my own client account) can still send as many invites as the want without paying a cent. I think I read somewhere this is because we are "grandfathered in".  I'm also not buying UW's line that most clients don't send invites. This concerns me because from about April 2019-August 2019, I didn't need to send a single propposal to a job. I got ALL of my jobs througb invitations. Sure I got plenty of useless invites, but I also got a lot of really great paying jobs through invite-only opportunities. And, I would really like to get those opportunties again.

My guess is that it has something to do with profiles or it's a setting that's "off". That's because it was around that time (early August), when I did two things: start an agency, and built out 2 additional profiles (because UW didn't let me add more portfolio items until I created a profile). After I did these two things, it was like I flipped a switch...literally. See, when I started the agency, I noticed it wasn't showing in the marketplace. An UW customer service agent helped me change a bunch of settings to get it to show. Thanks to UW's filters, it didn't take me long to discover that my agency was showing in the marketplace, but my freelancer profile wasn't showing. Apparantly freelancers must choose one or the other to show in the marketplace, so I chose my freelancer profile. That was restored, but I don't think all of the settings were changed back that I had to change to get my agency to show, and I don't remember what they all were that got changed.

Anyway, after ALL of that happened (in less than a day), the invites stopped suddenly, and its still not the same. It was early August, and so the other thing I heard was people are on vacation...relax it will be back to normal soon. Well, again, been waiting patiently (for 4 months), and nothing is changing. So I really do believe it is because I did something wrong with the profiles (maybe I should only have 2 profiles, not 3??).....or, it's one of the setting changes that the UW support agent help me make to get my agency to show.

Sorry for the long-winded story. Any help would be appreciated.

You have to set the fiter to ''Any Country''

Does it matter? It's obvious Upwork sets a default as the user's country. This should be even more obvious to you that it doesn't matter because you're not gettingi any invites from that page. lol Either this page gets no traffic or users don't feel inclined to change the country filter to "any country."

LOL, you don't seriously believe that just because you see some algorithm created search results, that's what real clients see and you're somehow the Nr 1?????

This reminds me of the time that one guy came here to say he is #1 in some category because he hired a freelancer to get him the stats. lol

I only got 10 invitations in the past 90 days! Can you imagine that No. 1 lead generation specialist

What in the world made you think you're the Nr 1 lead generation specialist? You know that those google search results are more or less randomly generated and change all the time?

You mess up your invitations because of that very unwise decision to hide your earnings, which means lots of searches don't show you at all, and those which do make you look sneaky and like you have something to hide.

Many clients take one look at a profile with hidden earnings and immediately move on.

You've not been hired in months.... Clients are not interested in approaching you, as evident from your low number of invites.... Maybe play around with your profile...

But of course it is much easier to blame Upwork for your failure to attract business than your poor profile.

Lol! Its totally up to me if I want to show or hide my earnings and as far as I know client can see earnings! I don't need to be hired for new jobs as I already have two long term ongoing projects.

When you set the country filter to ''Any Country'' that means you would get the global results. I just told that if I was number 1 lead generation specialist in global results then why do I get few invitations! That's it! Why are you people getting so serious?!

Indeed it is, if you want to get less invites (because by doing so, you are excluded from a lot of searches if clients, as many do, use a payment filter, for example.)

As you are complaining about not being invited often, despite believing that you're some sort of Nr 1, I thought it would be helpful to you to know about one of the reasons why clients are not inviting you, and one (of several)  reasons is because your choice excludes you from many searches.

As far as I know client can see earnings!

Clients you apply to can see your earnings.

Clients who find your profile any other way, can not.

I don't need to be hired for new jobs as I already have two long term ongoing projects.

Then why are you complaining about getting less invites than you somehow believe you should be getting?

Petra, Are you sure clients I don't apply to can't see my earnings?!

I hid my earnings because I didn't want random people to see it! It doesn't make sense! Why would anyone hide his/her earnings from clients?!

Anyway, I've changed the settings! I hope you're right!

Yes, I am sure.

Yes, I know that for a fact.

Because they don't want clients to see that their profile rate is much higher than the rate they actually work at.

Ah! Now that makes sense!

Petra you're a senior member of this community and you should not attack other fellow members like this!

You don't know anything about me yet you kept insulting me! What have I done to you??

If you have time then please also do a google search using this keywords: freelance lead generation specialist

Be compassionate, be humble and be more tolerant! Peace be upon you!

Buddy, those results rotate. I can't tell if you're just angry that she's right or you refuse to understand.

Jennifer,

I'm not angry! I was just astounded by the behaviour of a senior member of this community like her! You can make others understand something politely, can't you?

All I said was that the invitation system didn't work as it supposed to be and that was a failure! I may not be as much intellectual as you or Petra but I do know how search engines work and yes those results rotate! Peace!

You implied that you're the #1 lead generation person on Upwork, which gave us all a chuckle because those pages are auto generated and rotate. You implied that you are #1 and should be getting more invitations based on that one page, which we then pointed out that you only show up if users choose "all countries" or happen to be in your country so the filter is auto-selected. So, we are correcting you on your wrongness so other people don't go scrambling to figure out how to manipulate their way onto a useless category page and fool themselves into thinking they are #1 something on Upwork. lol
