Invite for Googe Hangout Interview

Received an invite for a data analyst role. Accepted interview, but now they want to communicate through Google Hangouts. I know that it may be possible that its not a scam, but I'm suspicious that the Talent Specialist is also included on the invite. I thought they where just the middle man. She does include a upwork.com email address. I think I'll pass, just wanted to get some input.

The fact that scammers use Google Hangouts as part of the most common scam on Upwork is well known among Upwork users and Upwork employees.

I doubt that any legitimate Upwork employee or representative would ask you to use Google Hangouts.

To anybody who works for or represents Upwork:

If you want to use Google Hangouts, then you are going to run into serious problems. You need to have a conversation with Upwork users before making such a decision.

From what I've read from others, Upwork does indeed use Hangouts from time to time.  Certainly problematic for newbies.

I only posted this because of the warnings I’ve seen on here. I’d hate for me or others to miss a legitimate opportunity.

As Mary mentioned, Google Hangouts is sometimes used by Talent Specialists...this thread my be helpful:

I've now replied to 2 upwork personnel via private messages, and no one has responded.

Hi Mattie, 

I'm sorry but Joanne, and Bojan are not online right now. Are you referring to the client from Africa? I checked his account and can confirm that he has a considerable activity on Upwork. I would assume that the client is the most comfortable Google Hangouts which is why they suggested it.
