Is closing the job yourself wrong?

Hi UW,

I'm new to UW and just finished my first ever freelance contract - yay! The client and I decided that the contract was finished. He said he would close the contract, but a day later I thought I'd do it myself instead.

I get the impression that I shouldn't have done that - is that correct?

Best wishes,

It's not "wrong," per se, but it's better if the client closes the contract because then they HAVE to leave you feedback. When you do it yourself, it lowers the chance that they will come back in to do that step.

Since feedback is the bulk of the Job Success Score, that's why it's recommended to let the client do the closing (unless they've completely disappeared and you have an inactive contract for more than about three months).

It's always better to let the client close the contract.  That way, they have to provide feedback for you.
