Is the feedback given before or after close the contract?

I have completed my first work, and I would like to know if the client can give a feedback before or after close the contract?

Feedback is given when the contract is closed.

The client closes the contract.

And there is NO WAY TO close the contract unless the client leaves feedback.

Then the freelancer is notified that the contract has been closed. The freelancer has 2 weeks during which he may log into the system and leave his own feedback.

After both the client and the freelancer have left feedback, they see each other's feedback. Or if two weeks go by, then the window closes the freelancer to leave feedback. After the two-week window closes, feedback can be seen by everybody, because the chance for the freelancer to leave feedback has ended.

Or the roles are reversed if the freelancer closes the contract.

Nobody leaves feedback before the contract is closed.

(Unless you're doing mid-contract feedback, which is a whole other topic, but rarely used relataively speaking, and not what you're asking about.)

Freelancers close contracts too, and when they do, the client doesn't have to leave feedback. It is not correct to state that "the client cloises the contract" or that "there is NO WAY to close the contract unless the client leaves feedback!"

Besides, that wasn't even the question asked...

The question was whether feedback if left before or after a contract is closed.

Or on open contracts, by clients, after 30 days, if they want to.

Can client give's a feedback if the freelancer was the one who closed the contract?

Yes, for 14 days, but they don't have to

Feedback is left while the contract is being closed, so you want to encourage the client to close the contract.

Clients can also leave feedback on contracts that have been open for at least 30 days, but such feedback is basically meaningless.

Simple rule: never end a contract yourself. Always let the client do it.

Ok, thank you so much

I disagree. If you're sure a client isn't happy with your work, it's best to ensure they don't close the contract. If you close it yourself, there's at least a chance that they won't leave feedback. Letting the client close it ensures that they do leave feedback.

Robert, you are right. But this applies only to 0,005% of jobs (made up number), since the freelancer always does their utmost best to deliver excellent work, and my answer applies to the remaining 99,995%. If somebody expects bad feedback, they must rethink their upwork strategy.

After reading this thread, I'm left wondering if I've done the wrong thing. I did some work for a client in June and July. I finished what she asked me to do and she was happy with the work. She mentioned that there might be a bit more to come, but by November I hadn't heard back from her. I messaged her and told her that I was going to close the contract, but that if she decided she wanted anything else done, we could re-open it. She seemed happy enough with that so I went ahead and closed it. Was that a mistake??
