Is this a glitch?

A client already spent $2.4M after only being a member on August 27, 2024? It also shows 0 active contracts and no reviews.

Who knows. Once I stumbled into this epic feedback (check out hourly rate and total earnings):

The math aint mathing. I hope Upwork is able to provide answers as to why postings like these don't add up. Upwork shouldn't be making money off these job postings if these aren't even legit.

Hi Jessa,

Thanks for sharing your concern. Could you please click on my name and send me a PM with more information about the related job post you are referring to so I can check further?

Is Upwork creating or showing misleading information to attract freelancers or encourage them to spend their Connects? It's important for us to know if such profiles are genuine or if there's a potential issue with how client data is presented.

Exactly. The figures just don't add up. If the figures being displayed are false, then it could attract applicants that otherwise would not have applied.

If the stats are being manipulated, it raises concerns about the authenticity of the jobs as well. This could explain why there are so many open jobs with no hires.

Yes absolutely, even job open since 2-3 month but no hire and showing client last view but no activities what it's mean?

I also seen job post which showing $100k+ spend and when i click on it client spend is $312k+ isn't it major difference?

And I also seen $1M client post also but their spend per hour is very low so that possible they spend $1M? Sometimes it's looks tricky to spend connects.

I saw a job advertised the other week from a client who had spent over $3M on Upwork. I'd never seen that amount before and figured it was a one-off. Needless to say, there were 50+ applications within a short space of time, so I didn't waste time looking into the "potential" gig further. Now, you have come across another super spender, Jessa. Are we going to see more of these mega clients advertising on the platform? It wouldn't surprise me.

I haven't used paid connects to apply for jobs since learning about the "Other Folder" in another thread. Something's not right about Upwork of late. It seems to have become an all-take and no-give business model.

THE BEGINNING OF THE END FOR THE UPWORK MARKETPLACE?

All companies eventually fail if they focus more on the business and less on their most valuable resource, the people. Indeed, an online marketplace is only as good as those it attracts. Sadly, Upwork is becoming less attractive to high-quality clients and talented freelancers.

TAKE CARE OF THE PEOPLE, AND….

The saying, "Take care of your people, and the business will take care of itself," springs to mind. By "people," that doesn't mean shareholders. I've already reduced the amount of time I spend browsing the job's feed on Upwork so that I can focus my efforts elsewhere. I will continue to dip in and out to check for improvements, but I won't hold my breath.

WHAT'S NEXT?

As far as I can see, there is only one direction for this online marketplace to go if it's to survive. Still, can those steering this sinking ship guide it along the right path. I hope so. But with the growing number of disgruntled users, it's going to need a significant overhaul to restore trust and rejuvenate its services and core values.

Yeah, I think it might be a glitch. But just to be safe, always make sure the client's payment method is verified and that they have some history on Upwork before bidding on any job. Better safe than sorry!
