Is this a potential scam

I received an invite via UPwork and was asked to contact the client by email if interested in the job.  I did that (thought was strange but was curious).  I noticed that in the UPwork proposal history the potential client declined my proposal but is reaching out to me via email.  I have recieved information on the company and what I will be assigned to do but I will be paid weekly via mail as opposed to through Upwork.   Should I proceed any further?  They haven't asked for my resume yet or what else I need to do to reply.

Accepting payment off the Upwork platform is a significant TOS violation and can result in the loss of your account.

This is a scam.  You shouldn't begin work without an active contract on Upwork, found in your "My Jobs" section. You can flag and report the job to customer service

S-C-A-M

Rule of thumb: If you need to ask - consider the job a scam!
