I submitted a proposal and heard back started an online interview. The interviewer asked me about all kinds of software programs after long back and forth e-mails. The originial post for the job stated that it was data entry on microsoft word and excel and some vitural assistant tasks. The last e-mail stated " I will issue you a Payment to enable you to purchase all the software and equipment you need to start work. As soon as you receive the payment you will have it deposited with your bank mobile application. It Takes 24hrs for the check to be cleared in your account, once you have the funds in your account, you will then have the payment processed for your Equipment and complete working Materials to be shipped out to you for work. How do you want your name to appear on the check? and need you to confirm to me if this email is personal and the check can be sent here".
This seems fishy and like this might violate upwork guidelines in some way. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You are correct, if you receive any payment outside of upwork, you violate the ToS and that can lead to your profile being suspended forever.
Plus this is a scam to steal your money. US based new freelancers are the prime target, because they might still accept checks, which is not so usual in the rest of the world.

Thank you I appreciate it. Is there anyway I can report this particular job?

Yes you can flag the job posting for fraud, below the save job button.

Hi Nora,
I see Martina has already addressed your question. I also went ahead and checked on the job you are referring to and it's already been taken down by our team as it was in violation of Upwork ToS. Check out this post for more tips on how to avoid questionable jobs.
