Freelancers falsely holding themselves as CPA's. Freelancers stating that they are CPAs - it is illegal. There should be a requirement of the Freelancer to enter in actual certification to verify against National Database which is governed by NASBA.

You CAN be a qualified CPA without belonging to that body. It does not cover all countries. However, if you are not one of those countries listed on that body, you may not be able to do CPA work for clients residing there. That is not to say someone advertising the service would necessarily bid for those jobs, but would perhaps rather stick closer to home. Not saying it is what is done, just highlighting the discrepancy.

Qualified and the title use of CPA is not. One either has the certification, license or falls into the reciprocation for the following countries – Australia, Canada, Mexico, Ireland, and New Zealand plus Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
CPA buyer beware.
