It's just me or clients are adopting new tricks to don't follow Upwork rules?

I've worked for this client for a few months at a past contract. After that they hired another person to manage the team of freelancers and after a few months they hired me again.

It has been 6 months now (with the new contract) and the client wants me to write articles but add a lower amount at escrow and after getting all the work done on their side they will eventually pay me the rest. I didn't accepted that, because unfortunately that happened to me with another client last year (exactly the same behavior) and it was an horror movie to get the rest of my payment back.

The client doesn't accept to work accordingly to Upwork rules anymore and just want to work according to their terms. But they only tell me that by email and they don't like when I communicate through Upwork. So, I asked to cancel the contract since I don't want to work accordingly to their terms. It doesn't seem fair to me.

Have any of you ever been in a situation like this?
