JSS Drop without any reason

In the last two weeks I was not hired by anyone, I was working on a previous contract with a client with whom I have a good relationship and he will never give me a bad private review still my JSS drops from 87 to 83, Last time it dropped to 87 from 100, I dont even have a bad review. This is totally unfair to freelancers and when I contact support they don't even tell me the reason of JSS decline they give only generic answers.

Hi All,

 

Our engineers have addressed the root cause of this issue and now your profiles should display accurate calculations of your Job Success scores. They will also be addressing the effect this issue had on talent badges shortly.  

Update: the issue has been fully resolved, JSS and Talent Badges are now displaying correctly. As such, we'll be closing this thread from further replies.

Same issue with me. I think there is something wrong. please open a proper ticket with Upwork support and report a problem.

 

 

I know this is a bit of an old thread, but I recently closed several contracts that were finished in order to clean up my profile, and my JSS just tanked to 65%. I have contacted Upwork in the past about the score dropping quite randomly, and this is when I learned that a client left me negative private feedback, despite having just received positive public feedback. 65% implies I do terrible work for my clients which is just not the truth. The notion of private feedback is ludicrous; the whole point of feedback is to improve. The notion that a freelancer closing her own contracts is penalised for this is equally if not more ridiculous. Upwork told me that the way to remedy the situation is to take on some one-off jobs to bring the score up. I don't work this way, and not all freelancers do! I find a few long-term clients to work with. The JSS is skewed heavily against freelancers and has got to go. Upwork, if you're reading this, please consider it. 

Same here, I was a top-rated plus freelancer and my score suddenly just tanked last week from 100 to 95, and now it tanked from 95 to 86. I don't understand how we can improve our jobs as freelancers if we don't even know what the client is saying to us (because of private feedbacks). Also, it seems ludicrous to me that a contract worth $18 affected my JSS more than a contract worth $10000

Hello, My job score dropped more than 6% even with no bad feedback client recommendation is 88% right now 

for 5 years my client recommendation was 89% so I know there is no client recommendation issue with the profile.

when you ask Upwork they said private feedback is poor, so I condemned client hypocrisy.

I am a top-rated pus freelancer even though I can not survive. how newcomers will survive. now my top-rated plus badge will be snatched. even though I didn't do anything wrong.

Upwork should think about freelancer issues. give us some relief.

Question - Would you prefer it if the client was not 'hypocritical', and left poor public feedback for you also? After all, private feedback is more likely to be genuine so it's only fair the whole profile accuratley reflects the client's experience, right?

You have a choice. Either acknowlegde your shortcomings so you can overcome them, or continue with the 'it's not my fault' mentality and get nowhere.

There you go again, blaming others. It is not Upwork's fault that your clients left you negative feedback. The best thing you can do is to stop making excuses and take full responsibility so you can progress.

 

One more thing. You seem so eager to have started ranting against Upwork instead of looking for solutions that you appear to have missed something. Your profile still says you are Top-Rated Plus. In which case, do you have a top-rated perk available? If so, you can still use it to remove negative feedback provided it's done within 2 weeks of dropping below 90% and using it will hopefully push your JSS over 90% again. The 4.5 probably left negative feedback that can be zapped, but there's no guarantee of choosing the right one.

well if the client leaves 5 out of 5  feedback with wonderful reviews and leaves bad private feedback so this is client hypocrisy. if Iam doing something wrong. so it should be shown publicly this is transparency. 

Boosting proposal is the worst update in Upwork. the proposal should be boosted according to experience, job score, now every one wasting connects.

one more thing I love Upwork I worked day and night my blood and sweat in my profile. you love to write blogs this is why you are answering in your style. but the fact is that private feedback only hurts the freelancer profile, you get an idea soon.

The job score is unstable.

most of the freelance complaining about the job score maybe this is a system bug hope I will be fine after the next update.

You had a client just leave you a 4.5 prior to this JSS update. They likely left less than perfect private feedback. That's why your JSS dropped. 

Hi, Amanda, I dId 35 jobs in 6 months avg earnings for each job is 1300$,  I found one job I got 3,9 (1000$) and one 4.6 ( 750$) I don't think just 2 jobs could hurt your score 96% to 88%  and you know today again stats are changed now it's showing 89% also % of long term client incased 35 % to 42% hope Upwork fixing this issue.

Hi guys, please help. After this last JSS update (July 10) my JSS is now "not yet available" (change from 100%) and "Top Rated" badge is gone from my profile, but still showing under "Stats". The only thing I can think of that might have affected this is that I changed 1 of my 2 specialized profiles - it was "General Translation Services" originally, then I noticed it got changed to "Legal Translation" without me changing it (I thought it must have changed by itself due to some glitch). That's not accurate, so I went ahead and changed it to "Other Translation & Localization Services". And now after this last JSS update I have no JSS and no "Top Rated" badge. Please help! Thank you in advance.

I had my Top Rated Badge and 100% Job Success weeks ago but it was removed and returned to Rising talent today. I don't know what happened. No additional clients leave their feedbacks as the same jobs are still in progress. 

Please help.

Hlo , i got the top rated badge last week and today my top rated badge Suddenly disappeared And also my JSS Job success score also disappeared and rising talent badge came back so how can I get my top rated badge back

You may need to contact support.  This looks like a bug.  Your profile is showing a top rated badge when I open it up, but your profile doesn't list a Job Success Score.   The UW criteria for top rated is a 90%+ JSS, so it's unclear how the system issued you a badge with no JSS.  Only 2 of your 5 jobs have been completed with a client rating given, and I've never heard of UW issuing a top rated badge after only completing 2 jobs.  Looks like a bug

Can you help me, is it a bug or just some calculation rules?

I have 2 very long term clients and work with them for ages.

I'm having the similar issue too, my top rated status and 100% JSS just disappeared for no reason. I hope this gets resolved soon.

My last jobs were successfully finished, but my JSS Badge was removed on July 10. Actually, I should get the top rated plus badge last week.

You do not appear to have enough weeks for a TR badge.

today i noticed that my jss score is down to 90% from 95% and i dont find any reason why it should...anyone else facing this issue?

You probably had a good one drop out of your calculation window.

I *think* you might see an increase at the next update - there's a 4.45 that probably left poor private feedback approaching 3 months ago. Once it passes 3 months, it will only be counted once in your 6 month window instead of twice. Of course, this depends on the contracts you close in the meantime (and I could just be wrong).

 

The way I understand it, the calculation takes the full 6/12/24 month into account, meaning 1 contract that is 3 months old appears in all 3 windows. So, depending on how many contracts are in those three windows, it can have a big impact. (I'm neglecting the weird average months thing, because I don't remember it and don't want to look it up right now.)

I hope everyone is in good health. 

I've had the JSS badge on my profile for 3 or 4 weeks, with a 94% JSS score. Today I checked and the badge was gone. I have worked with almost 15 different clients since April 2022, and a total of 28 contracts

My stats section now says:
Job Success Score - Not Yet Available
My Badges - Last Updated Jul 10

I'm not sure why it's gone. Is this a glitch or something else? I apologize in advance if this has been asked before. 

P.S! I joined Upwork in March 2022. My first contract was from April 12th - April 20th.

My JSS Score was 88 just a few hours back.
And if I'm not mistaken it was here for like 1 month.

But all of a sudden my score vanished.

And in my Stats, it's showing, Not yet available!!

How could it just vanish?

You only have 2 jobs completed. You don't appear to have enough outcomes for a JSS.

I received my Job success score just a month back, and last week I can still see it on my profile as 100 % but today as on Monday I the Job Success Score just disappeared from my profile, can Anyone tell me why is that so?

Last week, I sent an email asking for feedback removal because one client left me unfavorable feedback and I wanted it removed from my profile. I didn't want it to affect my JSS Score.
 
However, I didn't get any reply from the Upwork team. I am not sure if they received my email, but I didn't get a reply back.
 
When I checked today, the feedback already affected my JSS and I lost my top-rated plus status because of this. 
 
When I requested the feedback removal, I was still an Upwork Top-Rated Plus freelancer. And if the feedback got removed during that time, I would have not been affected by the sudden change in my JSS score and I would still be top-rated Plus today.
 
I just don't think it's fair that my status suddenly got downgraded after getting 1 feedback (for a job that is only worth $18 too. Compared to my other jobs that are worth $1000-$20,000 in the last year or so, this one feedback shouldn't have affected my JSS that much. And I know this is the one that affected my JSS score because I never had any bad feedback in the last year. I checked all my recent contracts and all of them were good)

Please let me know if there is a similar issue that happened like this before that I can refer to. It's just frustrating that one small job can affect years of work that you invested in the platform.

Yeah, it's pretty clear from all the input and complaints from freelancers that the JSS system needs to be completely revamped. It's so unfair that negative feedback obviously gets more weight than positive.

I agree. I think there is really a problem with the JSS system. It makes no sense that my feedback would drop from 1 rating for a job worth $18 when I have 10 more jobs earning $20,000 and getting all 5 stars..

Same kind of thing happened to me. After being at 100% for years, ONE client gave me a 4.8 and must've left bad private feedback that dropped me to 98%. Six subsequent 5 star reviews (at least publicly) for more more money than that one have only gotten me back up to 99%. Whack.

It makes no sense that one small negative review for a job worth very little can impact the hard work that you've invested in for years. My other jobs are worth $20,000 and I got all 5-stars from that, but somehow the one with 4.2 stars that is worth less than $20 impacted my JSS more? Ludicrous

Sometimes Clients threaten to give bad feedback, My friend is also on Upwork he has always received good feedback but one particular client wants him to work extra without extra payment when he refused to do that, he threatened to leave bad feedback, and he did so and the JSS dropped from 100 to 89 per cent. As a freelancer, we pay 20% of our earnings to Upwork, but still, we don't get protection from such bully clients, who know that their feedback can affect us getting more work, one feedback can affect the score while he did 25 jobs and all the jobs have good response.

Hello! I'm still new, having only been here since April. I'm trying to solve the riddle of why my JSS went from 100% to 92%,  spent a few hours trying to sort it out, and have come up with it being maybe one of two things (when it could me more?).

 

There were two jobs with ended contracts that were pending my feedback, unbeknowngst to me, so I followed through with one. But the other's a weird circumstance. The client hired me after I sent him a custom sample, then I delivered everything for the first milestone. He told me that he didn't like it, but then sent another milestone (?). I wanted to make sure that I could produce what he wanted before accepting it and proceeded with essentially doing a portion of it for free. He didn't like that outcome, either, when to me it was identical to the original sample he liked before intially starting the project. I polietely told him that I did all that I could, and oh boy that's the truth, but our relationship didn't seem compatible. He ended the contract. I don't even know how to rate this one! Will passing on it (continue to) affect my score?

 

Then, I also have some contracts active that have both mine and the clients' feedback that haven't ended yet, and I don't know how that plays into JSS.

 

 I see that a lot of time and energy is being spent trying to straighten out similar issues with other people today. If anyone can help shed some light on this, it would be greatly appreciated.

I don't believe not leaving feedback affects your JSS (I could be wrong though) but in general, it's always good practice to leave feedback/reviews. What does your "clients who would recommend you" stats say? This may give you some insight into clients that left you negative private feedback and thus your JSS took a hit.
