JSS dropped by a suspicious client

Dear all,
I am writing to ask for your help regarding the contract for a specific job post.
I hope you could help to have a re-consideration on this client. Firstly, he created the job post and attempted to hire several, to me, he was making it for his trial so that he does not need to pay (I flagged the job post and specified the reason). Secondly, he convinced me that I should accept the offer and he would share more details via Skype (I accepted because I saw that the client received some good reviews) and also, I wanted to trust him. I actually planned to discuss minor details via Skype and keep communication for milestone details via Upwork. Therefore, for notes that the client shared via Skype, I have summarized and tried to share with him via Upwork to get an agreement. However, as he saw the message on Upwork, he just ended the contract. Therefore, I believe this client is not serious about paying a relevant amount for the job (as you can see, he keeps hiring and ending contracts for the same job post).
This was my 1st hourly project on Upwork so I did not have much experience, the client did not pay me anything and even gave me really bad feedback which affected my JSS so much and I do not think it is fair to me at all.

I would appreciate any help or support.

Thank you,

Kieu.

Yap, i had 95% a long time ago, i can't remember how long ago, but have completed lots of jobs on 75% to 80%+ success scores.

So i honestly don't care about the score, keep getting better and keep showing you would do the job best in your proposals.

Honestly, I feel very depressed whenever I see my JSS drop like this. I mean on my public feedback, 8/9 of the clients gave me perfect scores, and the worst thing is I do not know where the problem is from.

You will be fine, JSS will keep rising and falling through out your Upwork career, you just have to do your best on any job as much as you can. But definitely, there are always times to meet fake clients and people to spoil it.. it's all part of life.

I was thinking of stopping to apply for jobs as with this low JSS, I do not think clients will respond to my proposals. In that case, will my JSS still be the same after the next 2 weeks?

Lol no way , keep applying to jobs.. i have been on Upwork and I was once at 79% getting jobs and i could drop to that and still be getting jobs..

You can't hide quality behind a poor JSS... Clients that see your portfolio and like you will keep hiring.  I would hire you with that score if i wanted... Lol . Don't stop

Thank you a lot for your encouragement, that means so much to me, Emmanuel lol ๐Ÿ™‚

Yea, give people a reason to hire you like adding more items to your portfolio and write very nice proposals.. no body cares about a score, can you be able to deliver the job, that's what matters!

I really wish so, Emmanuel. I am not a social person, honestly, I stay away from all the social media platforms. Since I started working on Upwork, I have had so much invisible stress, many times I feel so depressed and plan to quit Upwork, actually. The last 2 week was the 1st time my JSS dropped to 90% and with so much hope, I was trying to move on and now it dropped again to 79% lol ๐Ÿ˜„ Both times I was so panic lol ๐Ÿ˜„ I do not know how to feel but I am glad to have you as a sharing friend.

You will continue applying for job this will happen on upwork your jss will increase when you will complete on or two job further

Kieu,

Just keep working hard and forget about it. Some clients make mistakes because English isn't their first language and by accident send poor private feedback to Upwork. I wish Upwork would do away with private versus public feedback and just have feedback. Clients are encouraged to be dishonest with the current format.

Totally agree with you, thank you very much, William. Hope you have a great day.

Kieu,

Never go off the site with a client because it's against Upwork's Terms.

Good morning, I just want to share an update as I got a response from Support team:

"We understand that bad outcomes can arise from poor client behavior and take this and other factors into consideration when we calculate your Job Success Score. Poor feedback from a client with a poor track record will not be included in your score. We know that not every contract will end perfectly, and your Job Success Score wonโ€™t be ruined by just one or two negative contract outcomes.
Additionally, please be advised that contracts only appear on your profile after your client pays at least $1.00. Contracts not meeting this minimum are hidden from your profile and excluded from your work and feedback history."

So now it is quite creepy that I do not know what makes up this JSS as I got all the good feedback from clients in the last 2 weeks. I mean if I did a bad job, why did they pay me and even give me good public feedback?
