"Non-existent" is definitely a bit too kind.

When is the Product Team going to understand that not every client is NOT going to leave feedback after a successful project. So when a freelancer closed a completed project the likely hood that a client will close from their end and leave feedback is 10%. YES 10%. Also when you call the customer support center to send a client an email, that is just bothering the client is DOES NOT HELP.

(snip)

Where on earth did you get this 10% number from?

Upwork's position is that a *pattern* of jobs with no feedback indicates poor client and contract management, and as a client I tend to agree. This is why JSS is negatively impacted if a freelancer has a *pattern* of jobs with no feedback.

There is more to being a successful freelancer on Upwork than just winning a job and delivering the finished product. Client and contract management is an important skill for all freelancers. It starts before you even bid on a job (does the client have a great history of feedback, both given and received) and doesn't end after you have delivered the finished product.

Hello,

My job success score, before yesterday, was 97% and I was quite happy about it.

However, all of sudden, I found out today that my JSS has fallen to 91%. It is especially confusing because none of my contracts ended in the last 15 days. Can someone please guide me what has caused this massive fall in my JSS?

Here's the link to my profile: https://www.upwork.com/fl/sabaumair3

Best Regards,

Saba Umair

I just want to say how dissapointed I am in the Upwork job success score and if some of the Upwork support members will please explain how in the world is this possible.

I had a 94% job success and then I got 5 contracts in the past 3 weeks. Now out of the 5 contracts, 4 of them were with a grade of 5.00 and one was 4.40. And my job success score now has fallen down to 91%?

Please do not tell me that it private feedback is the culprit there is no way that out of all the 5 star contract that they have given me a lower private feedback because clients do not tend to do that.

I am just 6 weeks away from being top rated and this has now put my top rated status in jeaopardy.

A real shame from Upwork, a real shame.

The comment on the 4.4 star feedback hints at poor private feedback so that contract counts against you for sure.

With only 19 ended contracts each contract weighs very heavily (represents over 5% of all your ended contracts) so one bad contract can tank you several percent.

But four 5 star contracts are not taken into consideration to atleast NOT lower my job success score?

Weren’t you called Emilio a post ago?

at any rate, percentages are tricky things, it takes far more contracts to make the percentage rise than fall.

Think about it this way:

say you have 10 red apples. Your red Apple percentage is 100%

Add 9 more red apples and 1 green apple, your red apple percentage falls to 95%

Add another 8 red apples, and 2 green ones, your red apple percentage falls to 90% ....

Now very simplistically (it is more nuanced than this with JSS) exchange red apples for good outcomes and green apples for bad outcomes and you see why one bad job will always hit you harder than a number of good ones will see your JSS rise, and the nearer you get to 100% the more it takes to get a further increase in the % number.

If Upwork was transparent, it would not be tricky at all.  It's tricky because the chose to make it tricky.

Well, Emilio, Matej, and now "G G" ....

Your JSS is the least of your worries now.... Still having either one of your two (or more??) accounts at the end of this and just a policy violation (instead of a suspension) on your profile is now much more the issue.......

I don't think that's what impacted your score, since the 4.4 and the private feedback accompanying it probably dropped you down. However, clients very much DO tend to do that--that's exactly why Upwork dropped average star ratings in favor of a system that factors in private feedback. MANY clients are too cowardly to tell the truth in public, or want to avoid the insane harassment that many freelancers openly admit to engaging in if they don't like their feedback. Private feedback allows them to be honest without repercussions.
