Job listing not reflecting reality (causing freelancers to inadvertently waste connects)?

I have submitted feedback and contacted CS but wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience?

I submitted a proposal and received a contract based merely on the proposal, i.e. without any preceding interview (the job description was very detailed, the job rather small and well defined, and the client has excellent reviews so I felt no need for an interview prior to accepting the offer). However, the job is still listed as vacant, there is no indication that anyone has been hired (or interviewed), and the number of proposals has increased since I accepted the contract. I gather this means that freelancers are bidding on a job that is no longer vacant, wasting both time and connects. I have no reason to think that the job is kept open on purpose, as I very much doubt that the client intends to hire more than one person for the job.

Admittedly, I don't know how often it happens that freelancers receive a contract without any prior interview, so this may not be a major issue, but I can't help but wonder whether there is a bug that causes freelancers to waste connects on jobs that in reality are no longer vacant. In case someone has paid for extra connects, I do see this as quite a big issue.

(I have cleared cache, checked on different devices, they all show the job as vacant).

Just do the job and don't worry about what the client is doing or why.

Clients are given the choice to leave a the client may hire several people to do the same thing in order to make sure one is as close to perfect as possible or other reasons.

If it was a short but urgent translation the client may either want to hire 2 or more to get the best chance of one usable one, or leave the job open in case the chosen freelancer flakes out.

You were hired, concentrate on that part.

Annette, it's normal, as Petra said, for clients to leave job postings open. However, in your profile there are no jobs in progress showing. I'd double check that the job is showing in My Jobs before starting any work.

 That's because they no longer show "nothing paid yet" contracts. Like it used to be, then "nothing paid yet" contracts showed for a while. Then they didn't anymore.

The reason it is not showing on the job post that someone was hired is likely because the client created a hire from her profile, as a direct hire, not via the application. I have a client who does that frequently.

The job shows in my active contracts and it is fully funded.

As I said above, I have no reason to believe that the client intends to hire other people - they have posted almost identical jobs in the past and have never hired more than one freelancer at a time. So this is not about me "worrying" about whether the client hires other freelancers.

The reason I posted was that I'd hate if other people wasted their connects on a job that is no longer vacant. If the job listing doesn't reflect reality, then it's an issue for those who use their connects to submit proposals in vain - especially if they have paid for extra connects.

 Yes. It happens. It actually happens frequently. It "is what it is" as they say.

Our point was that Upwork is not going to compel the client to close their job post, which is why I suggested you concentrate on the contract you have rather than worry about other people's connects.
