Job open but somebody already hired?

Hello all,

While I was trying my best to make a good proposal (but just during a very few minutes), the client has hired somebody else. After I click on "submit proposal", I saw that the job was actually not receiving proposals anymore. Basically I lost 4 connects ๐Ÿ˜ž Does Upwork ever block applying for a job if it has been filled? If not, how to avoid wasting connects in such cases?

Thanks and good luck for your careers ๐Ÿ™‚

Carole

Hi Carole,

I can confirm that we do notify a client and encourage them to close a job post once they have hired for their project. Some clients keep it open, probably to hire again or check the other proposals if the first talent doesn't work out. We're not privy to a client's hiring activities, so we can't say for sure but hopefully, this sheds some light on your concern.

It's possible that a client can hire multiple people for the same job.

I need to understand a job where client have hired someone so I can bid or not how are you know that the client required more than one person for the job or it is chance to get the job from that client project

In the job post, there's a little stats section below where it tells you how many freelancers hired. It doesn't appear when no one is hired yet.

I  basically will skip the job when a freelancer is hired already. Looks like clients are presented with an option,  "do you need more than 1 freelancer?",  and I feel most of them will simply click "Yes".

Well, conveniently for UpWork, those stats (specifically the Hires stat) are hidden on the proposal submssion screen. It is only visible on the job posting screen and then only after a refresh.

And job listings have the feature now to show how many freelancers they want to hire.

Between the extraordinarily high number of freelancers on the platform and little disadvantages in the UI like this one, all combined with the insane need to submit a proposal to a job within the first 15 minutes of it being posted, and the ridiculuous raising of the number of Connects required to submit a proposal - this platform has turned into Freelancer.net ... with lame AI.
