Jobs asking for CV/Resume and "Hiring Process"

I have seen so many jobs in upwork which invite tens of applicants (sometimes even 100). See this one for example:

(I have sanitized client's location, but it was an invite I received about 4 days ago.)

There are plenty of such job postings and invites on upwork where either we are asked for submitting a CV or we are asked to go thru a "Hiring Process" which might look like this:

(Another one I received just today morning).

So I just don't understand why I need to submit a CV when my profile and job history already goes with my proposal? And why I need to follow a "Hiring Process" which includes stuff like " Answer and pass" some kind of test?

Most of these postings (most=more than 90% I encountered) that ask for these kind of tests which might be very arbitary and unregulated DO NOT mention any "paid" test. And see the competition. I might be competing with perhaps hundreds of applicants! So I cannot let that task affect my review as chance of successfully completing such a test would be very very low.

Also I just suspect what is even success rate of such job postings? Has anyone been ever hired in them? If yes then what percent?

I get so many invites even from "Talent Specialists" and my first impulse is always to press the "Decline" button because I don't want to do any free work.

I request the concerned people on upwork to look into such job postings. And also the "Talent Specialists" to kindly avoid inviting people to such postings which ask for implicit "Free work".

And also I want to ask the community about what is your opinion about asking for Resume. Are such postings genuine? or Just these are some HRs collecting a pile of CVs (which most likely includes contact info) so that they could contact the freelancer directly?

Hi Rahul,

Thanks for your question. Client on a Business and Enterprise plan are permitted to request and share contact information and conduct interviews or pre-contract communications outside of Upwork’s platform. You can identify whether a client is Upwork jobBusiness or Enterprise by looking for the following symbol on the right column of the job post or in the search tile:

Untitled

Regarding your concern with Talent Specialist, they help connect clients with freelancers and agencies so they can work together. The Talent Specialists may highlight jobs for you based on your listed skillset and availability and send you invitations to submit proposals on behalf of the client. To participate, you don’t need to do anything except have a history of success in the skill category and available for a participating client’s job. This means you can spend more time working and getting projects done and less time searching and sorting through job posts. You can check this help article for more information.

As for those that you mentioned that are asking for free work, could you please send me a PM with the job post link so I can check with the team?

Upwork

lt's the last requirement of providing a background and credit check that would raise several red flags for me.

Could Upwork confirm that this  information should be given to Enterprise andjob Business clients if asked?

Why should HR or a CEO bother to interview a freelancer?

You'll have to assess each gig individually. However, it is worth keeping in mind that scammers sometimes use a long application process to appear legitimate and test your commitment before stealing your data and/or convincing you to cash a check and purchase equipment from their "vendor." I would be very cautious about sending detailed personal information to a prospect I've not carefully vetted. (Also remember that a scammer can use the name of a legitimate company to trick you.)
