Keep getting invites to interview that don't fit my skills

I keep getting invitations to interview that aren't a fit for my skills.

How do these clients find the freelancer? What kind of algorythm

are they using?

Also I get alot of bogus/scammer invites.

Scammers aren't very discerning. So, they are just sending invites in hopes of landing a mark.

Unapplicable invites? No idea. Sometimes a talent specialist is behind it, sometimes it's just clients gone wild.

Continue to decline and sail on.

Upwork

I got 25 invites in one day and only 2. Maybe 3 were legit. I can’t spend
my time reporting as ll of these because I do have 2 clients I work for and
I’d be doing this all day.
I notice most of the invites have “payment not verified” so I try to stay
away from them. I’m a little nervous to accept a job from these.

That must have been a freak day, given that you received agrand total of 34 invites in the last 90 days, so that's just over one every 3 days. Those shouldn't be that hard to decline?

Louise, my simple theory is that your strong profile ranks high in many keyword searches. Spammers don't use filters or specify anything at all, just type in the general term as the keyword and shoot dozens of invites away. (Sometimes thousands, which is INSANE!! 🤪)

At some point, years ago, I got a lot of invites for doing translations, usually Japanese or Finnish. It was a keyword match alright, just the job category was all wrong. I really don't do translations over here even if I skillwise could. 🤣

I suspect you're experiencing something similar right now.

My issue was resolved by raising the hourly rate slowly but surely. Then spam stopped magically when I went to 3 digits. 😉
