Hi there,
I joined Upwork in 2018 and all this time I've been monitoring the stats, especially the number of clients who place their job postings each month.
1. Since the beginning of 2022 I've noticed that fewer and fewer clients post their jobs on Upwork. The number of job postings has dropped down drastically since than.
2. Another tendency that drew my attention to is that the average client's budget decreased as well.
3. I haven't been getting any invitations (not even a single one) for months... Before 2022 I'd have 2-3 invitations a week.
Has anyone else noticed that? and if so what are the possible reasons for that?
Is that because clients prefer not to hire Ukrainians or better to say freelancers based in Ukraine to stay on the safe side?
Many thanks,
V.

IMO, these are the main reasons:
1. World economy
2. Dollar exchange rate - it's roughly 20% more expensive to hire for anyone who is not in the US than it was a year ago. That might cause clients to stick with their local talent outside of upwork.
3. Daily avalanche of new freelancers, diluting the job pool for everyone.

covid has completely changed my busy and slow seasons. I was on point with the other Eeyores on here that complained every summer that Upwork was broken, but now I'm busy during summers and October drops out and then Dec is just ok.
Their search changes hit me too for about 3-4 months. It's gotten better though. I went into the open marketplace this week (pooyuck I hate that place) but I don't go there enough to notice fluctuations.

Hi Vadym,
I experience the same! I'm on Upwork since it was Elance and last few years (especially 2019-2021) I've been doing great, and even forgot how to apply for job, since I've been receiving many invitations. Since spring of this year and especially now (October-November) it is a disaster. I barely get any profile view/invites, and my Stats also show something weird, because sometimes it shows my views as zero for a few days and then it changes.. Something is not working.
I even wrote to support, but they just advised me to write better cover letters...
It's a first time since I started Upwork-ing I seriously prepare myself for off-upwork life.
p.s. I'm Ukrainian too btw, and I heard this idea, that clients "got tired of Ukrainians" , but I refuse to take it seriously :(.

Over the past year I've seen invitations to new projects and job postings I'm interested in submitting proposals to drop at least 30%.
More recently I've seen the quality of potential new clients take a nosedive. Maybe the smart entrepreneurs starting new businesses (my bread and butter) are sitting it out for the time being and the amateurs who don't know what they're doing are full steam ahead.

Most of my job feed is something like "Looking for expert for comic book, 55 1/5 pages, plus cover and three stolen souls. Willing to pay $500."

Upwork is really a mess right now, and the pay is very ridiculous; why would I want to write 3000 words for 5 dollars? Upwork should do something about the quality of people they allow into the platform. Also, can the Indians stop with the poverty prices
