I have received an e-mail with a whats app number requesting to contact client to receive training video and guidelines.
Then I received a link for a platform where I suppose to log in to work.
My computer is giving me a message that this link is not secure. The client answered that I should open the link in another browser. Is this suspicious?

It is not only suspicious, you are also violating Upwork's terms of service, which (try to) protect you by forbidding any communication with clients outside the platform prior to an official Upwork contract having been established.
That means you are not allowed to talk to clients via whatsapp or anything of the sort until then.

You are (presumably?) not hired with a proper contract via Upwork, so there is no reason for you to "log in to work".
It's probably simply a phishing attempt. Flag the job post as inappropriate.
In future, do not communicate with clients outside Upwork until you are properly hired.
