When I submit a proposal, a window pops up and says "you will not meet the preferred qualifications"  and it shows my location is not in the United States, however, I do live in the United States and have included my address in my proignore it until file, why are my proposals being rejected?

It is a bug and your proposal is not being rejected. Ignore it until Upwork fix it, which should happen in the next Millenium or two.

Hi Jeff,

I can confirm that this error only shows on the freelancer end and doesn't affect how the proposal looks on the client's end. Still, we expect the fix for this issue to be released soon.

We appreciate everyone's patience while we are getting this fixed.

Obviously there are problems right now with location verification, location settings, and associated aspects of the Upwork system.

I think most Upwork users are not actually affected, but I feel bad for those who are encountering this. Although hit is mostly an annoyance rather than something that has any real impact on their ability to send proposals and get hired.

If there is a silver lining to all of this, I would say that it is an indication that Upwork IS taking freelancer location accuracy seriously. Too many Upwork clients have been frustrated by freelancers faking their locations, and their complaints have clearly motivated Upwork to take a number of measures to combat the problem. Upwork's implementation of solutions is not perfect yet, and may never be.

But the problems themselves mean that Upwork is trying to make sure clients are presented with accurate information about where freelancers are located.

Valeria,

Can you please define "soon".  I'm hoping Petra's guesstimate is a little off. Smiley Indifferent

Hi Virginia,

While we do not have an ETA yet, we'll make sure to update this thread if there is any information we can share, and when the issue has been resolved.

Every time I submit a proposal, if Preferred Qualifications is a U.S. location, Upwork says I'm not U.S.

I have changed it everywhere I can think of.

I live in Los Angeles and I am verified.

(I can't attach more than one screenshot but "My Profile As Others See It" does say Los Angeles.)

I have the same issue! I had not been using Upwork for a while, and today was my first day back. Could that be the problem?

Long running thread on this topic:

https://community.upwork.com/t5/Freelancers/Location-Suddenly-Inaccurate/td-p/545098/page/7

The TL;DR version is that it's a bug they are working to fix but one apparently that doesn't have any real impact as while you see this message, clients won't.
