Malicious Feedback

Hi everyone

I will tell my story for context. I was contacted by this client on upwork to develop a website for him. On completing one page he paid everything we agreed upon. He then offered more work for more pay which I was happy to do but he did not fund the new milestones. Since he had paid the first sum of money I trusted he would pay the rest. When I asked him to pay he said he would pay once the job is completed as he had sub-contracted me and he also had to be paid first which was understandable. I completed the job and delivered it. His boss was happy with the results and so was he. Weeks passed and he did not pay despite my numerous reminders. He would only tell me to be patient. After a whole month he had not paid and my patience was running thin. I asked him to pay and he simply ignored my messages so I opted to email his boss. He was furious about this, paid me the money he owed me and left me a bad review. Is there a way to get upwork to look into this and my messages with him so that I can have his review removed. I am a new freelancer and such a review will affect me negatively

he did not fund the new milestones.

Full stop, you do absolutely nothing until it is funded.

I trusted he would pay the rest

You can't trust anyone, and clients will cheat. Before you do any work, the milestone must be in place and funded. The people on Upwork are no different from a random chat room. You don't know who they are, what they want, or why they are here. You have to protect yourself, because no one, including Upwork, will do it for you.

Contacting his boss was an odd move, and I can understand why they were upset. You need to deal with the people who hire you.

If you are not cautious before onboarding a client, that is the price you pay. Now, you have to live with it and move forward with that review until you get eligible to remove a review.

I'm sorry to hear that but it wasn't required from you to work unless the milestone was funded. You took the risk and then lost the patience. It's okay. Things don't always work out.

Professionals know there isn't a 100% success thing. So, breathe, take lessons, and move on. You do not want to attract and work with a similar client by having a 100% success rate, do you?

UpWork also releases money after a certain hold period even on a contract that ends on 5 stars. You do not get to rate UpWork for that, do you? There is no other way than adopting the framework that is in place.

From next time, do not work unless a milestone is funded. The road is bumpy!
