Well to start, Other than community forum contributions, there is no formal documentation for removing manual time from a work diary if not using the time tracker app.
As, truncated as possible ->
Started contract and work.
Sent initlal concept to client, discussed, manually Added 1 hour to timesheet.
(actually did more but gunning for good reviews, client was aware)
Week eneded
Worked on project independently, and proofed and finilized project with client.
While chatting, mutually agreed job complete, and contract could be closed.
Client, kindly encouraged I bill for more than 2 total hours.
I declined but thanked him for the opportunity and we both go to close contract. I went to the time sheet to enter 1 manual hour, client pays for billed hours aboth of us close the contract.
Here is the issue...
Both of us have used upwork over the past 5 years, but only a few times each.
With chat still open, the Client payed 1 hour + 5X hourly rate bonus and closed the contract, while I was entering the second hour and closing the contract. The client told me he paid a bouns and left a positive review, I informaed the client I left a positive review as well, we thanked each other again , chatted casually for another 5 minutes, and closed the chat.
Immediatley after ending the chat, I checked the transactions to see how much the client added as a bonus, and noticed that 1 hour was paid not two. As I was grateful for the bonus, and the 5X hourly rate bonus more than covered the remaining unpaid hour, I attempted to remove the remaining hour. I did not want the client to see an outstanding balance on this contract next time he logged in to upwork. as he could potentially assume I intentionally and dishonestly added that hour after he closed the contract.
I searched the help section, the community section, and attempted to "CHAT" with upwork about removing the hour. I wasunable to find any documentation on how to solve this without the client having to pay for that hour and I provide a refund. The Upwork chat bot was did not understand my question, as well, no REAL PERSON was available to assist me, and of 3 attempts at creating a request with support, 0 have been confirmed as even having been recieved in the in the "My requests" section.
Bluntly Stated, When the client reads the message I was ethically obligated to send about the situation, I'm confident my gratitude for thier generosity, as well, my dilligence, and intentions of getting the hour removed, will be recieved clearly. While the client may not think I am an idiot , I sure as hell feel like one. Having to ask COMMUNITY MEMBERS has left me kinda pissed.
Why...lol... Why... does the Upwork contract workflow not require freelancers to submit, and clients to approve, FINAL HOURS before contracts can be closed and dispositioned as "completed successfully"?
