Mobile Number / ID Verification

Today while submiting one of my job application I suddenly redirected to new page for my Mobile Number / ID Verification page. I verified Mobile Number instantly and National ID Card submitted for verification purpose.

Got a Notification Message from Odesk:

"Your documents for ID Verification have been received. We will get back to you within 10 days."

Is this routine checkup for all freelancer or there is something doubtful on my account?

I remember that I verified my ID and mobile number even before I applied for my first job. I don't know when exactly does odesk asks you for id verification but yes everyone has to go through it and it is normal. It is not however routine . By that I mean that once you have verified your ID successfully for the first time, it is not normal for odesk to ask for it again unless it suspects some fraudulent activity.

Hi Shubhro,

There is no option for users to initiate phone verification. You will be notified if phone verification is required by Upwork.

ID verification is not required for your account at this time, and it will not help your profile or increase your profile status in any way. You may read more about ID verification here.

Phone verification used to be available a few years ago and freelancers you are referring to probably completed it back then. It's not available at freelancers' request anymore.

On several freelancers' profiles, I see on the right side bar:  VERIFICATIONS Phone number: Verified.  I can't find any option to verify my own phone number for my profile.  Is this something brought over from odesk or elance that is no longer available on Upwork?  Thanks in advance.

Phone Verification is requested by Upwork, this cannot be started by the freelancer.

And it is only done in certain situations, so don't feel left out 🙂 .
