More than one bank account

Can I add two different bank accounts from two different countries? I travel back and forth between two countries and would like the option to withdraw my earnings in the country where I am currently at. But I do not wish to change my primary location in my profile which is Australia, as it helps me get Australia specific jobs.

Thanks in advance.

Probably not , at least not in current system as it allows only one Bank Account ( we need to remove existing one to add another ) .

However Payoneer card is usable globally as far as i know of .

I have this same problem. They answered it couldn't be done, you can only have one account linked to your main address in the country you live.

Using Payoneer card might be a solution , maintenance and fees will be on higher side though .

Yes Payoneer becomes costly with it's withdrawal and foreign currency conversion fees.

Is there any restrictions on the number of times I can change my location?

re: "Is there any restrictions on the number of times I can change my location?"

Upwork wants contractors' specified location to accurately indicate where they actually live, but Upwork does not want people to change locations frivolously.

If you are travelling, do NOT change your location.

If you move to a different place permanently, you should change your location.

Location information is one of the main pieces of information that Upwork checks in its efforts to identify dishonest/fraudulent contractors. Upwork will not reveal the details of its anti-fraud algorithms because it does not want to game the system.

Is there an official restriction on the number of times you can change your location?

No.

Are you going to invite trouble and potentially problemantic attention from Upwork if you change your location too many times?

Yes.

I live half of the year in one country and the other half in another, I can not use funds from the account currently listed in the country I will be leaving to in a few weeks, what would be the best course of action?

Hi Samantha,

Just to confirm, would you like to add a different billing method to your account?

A different billing address from a different country.

Hi Samantha,

You're free to make updates to your account location in order to reflect your location. If it does raise any flags on our end, the team will reach out to you directly. Please follow the steps described here for changing these settings on your account, including address.

Hi All,

Here are responses to the questions that came up on this thread:

Q: Can a freelancer add more than one bank account as a withdrawal method?

A: Yes, as long as the name on the bank account matches the name on the Upwork profile. Please, note that one bank account should be selected as primary for scheduled withdrawals. Withdrawals to non-primary accounts will have to be done manually.

Q: Can the bank accounts be based in different countries?

A: Yes. If there are any specific issues or a verification needs to be done, you will be informed by our team.

Q: Can an agency have more than one bank account for withdrawals?

A: Yes, similarly to freelancer accounts. If you intend to use a company bank account, you may be requested to provide a proof that you are authorized to use that account.

I hope this information helps.

Upwork

Hi Valeria,

Sorry to refloat such an old post, but I wonder has this policy changed since the time this was written?

I'm a UK resident but I will soon be moving to Spain for a few months for work reasons. I would like to be able to set up my Spanish bank account as a secondary account, so that I can receive Upwork payments on that account for as long as I'm in Spain, but when I try to add it to my "Direct to Local Bank" information I'm only allowed to enter a second UK account.

I find that the only way to do this would be changing my address back and forth whenever I travel to Spain, but it feels as that would seem way more "suspicious" to Upwork than simply allowing me to add the information of my Spanish account, nothing to hide after all, but I can't seem to find the way to do so... Any help possible?

Thanks!!

Sorry, but any news on this? Thanks!

Hi Kevin,

Unfortunately, no news yet. There is no way to add multiple accounts from different countries currently but the team is discussing ways to make it happen.

In case this hasn't been resolved yet,

maybe you can sign up for a Payoneer account (I can send you my referral code) and add both your bank accounts (no Payoneer card needed)

it can be a temporary solution at least.

Payoneer is a temporary band-aid option because of it's withdrawal fees and foreign currency conversion fees when you are withdrawing outside your card's original currency.

I wonder why Upwork being a freelancer platform restricts to only account from a single country rather than multiple accounts from multiple countries. At the very least I think it should allow you to add 3 bank accounts of 3 countries.

Agree with previous member "At the very least I think it should allow you to add 3 bank accounts of 3 countries. At the very least I think it should allow you to add 3 bank accounts of 3 countries.

Agency plus plan I think should have  possibility to add some bank accounts (for people from this agency) Agency owner should have possibility to add bank accounts for at least 2-3 people. We shouldn't be tied into one city, one country. Upwork telling in it's advertisement - you can work from any place at the world, right ? But require from freelancers there to stay at one place and you will definitely got problems with oun money widthraw when travelling or moving to other location, or even simply when open new credit card when old expired???

I agree with Naveed on the fact that Payoneer can be used as a band-aid option, but surely it shouldn't be the only option for freelancers who need to access their earnings from different countries. Personally, I think it would make no sense for me to have to send the funds to the UK and then to Spain, having to support the costs and fees of changing from USD to GBP and then to EUR... I think it would be much easier to allow for a secondary account to be added to my payment options.

The only option I see would be to change my location to Spain, change my bank account details to my Spanish account, and then doing the same when I return to the UK, but if I'm lucky enough for this job to recur I know eventually someone will knock on my door asking why I change my location from the UK to Spain every now and then. Not to mention how confusing this might seem for my clients. I understand the need for anti-fraud/scam measures, maybe this should not be an option for newly created profiles, but surely freelancers with a spotless track record should be able to set this up in one way or another.

I love Upwork, it's definitely changed my way of working in a very positive way, but as Helen, I find it ironic that one of the best things about Upwork is the "work whenever/wherever" philosophy, yet you must be tied to one bank account to do this (Sure, you can also use platforms like paypal/payoneer, but you get the point).

Dear Valeria,

I'm establishing a formal business entity with another Agency. They will be doing most of the selling through their current Agency. However, the funds need to go to a separate bank account so our Agency can properly track business transactions that are shared. Where can this second bank account be added? What documentation do we need to provide, so we both have control of what is coming and going? Thank you!

Hi Heinz,

The agency (not clients) is responsible for paying agency members. When you work for an agency, all contract earnings are paid to the agency's financial account on Upwork. Please talk to your agency about how they will pay you. To learn more about how to manage an Agency, check out our resources Here. Thank you.

Hi everyone! I posted this last week but I didn't really get a solution yet: I'm told the team is looking into it but it would be good to know if this actually means that something is going to change or if it's just "in the team's mind for the future".

As time goes by, I'm closer to the date when I will be moving to a different country for a few months, and I'm not sure what to do: I don't want to risk any potential blocks on my account by changing countries back and forth, but I would like to be able to send funds to my abroad account for as long as I'm not in the UK. Other than paying to use services such as Payoneer, is there a way to know what Upwork's position is on this? Will it be ok if I just change my location and add my new bank information? I still think this would be confusing for current clients that will see I'm now in a different country, Spain, which is not an English-speaking country, and my ability to get new jobs may suffer the cost... Any help is welcome!
