My profile is not showing up when searching for freelancers by keywords.

I am a graphic designer, I paid for the promotion of my profile and I wanted to check on which page it is in the search. I did not find it at all, only when I wrote the first or last name in the search. My profile is public.

Hi Kseniia,

Various factors go into search results, and results may differ over time, partly to allow more freelancers a chance to be discovered. Some considerations may include Freelancer skills, experience, platform ratings, and other elements geared toward determining a potential match for the client’s job.
Our search is based on several factors that continue to evolve. We cannot disclose exactly what makes up the rules for a search order, and those rules are likely to change, so any specific advice we could give you would be short-lived. Search is no longer mainly static, meaning it always stays the same. Depending on marketplace activity across jobs and contractors, a contractor's search position will likely ebb and flow.
Some sound principles to remember for ranking well in search are as follows:
  • Do good work for clients and establish good long-term relationships on Upwork.
  • Only apply to jobs to which you are qualified.
  • Be accurate in showcasing your abilities & skills on your contractor profile.

Thank you for your answer, but that's not the point. I'm not in the search at all. I choose my skills, my country, my rate. The search returns a couple of people, but I'm not among them. That is, employers cannot find me under any circumstances.

Yes, you are in the search. Clark explained it well, and told you where you were in the search. He also gave you great advice on how to improve your profile, which is crucial. Unfortunately, you did not take it or change your skills title. If you don't make the effort to do all you can to be noticed by clients and not scammers, it will be to your detriment.

It may not be where you want, but it does change, and you are competing with millions of freelancers, so your search will go up and possibly even further down.

Also, it may be semantics, but there are no employers in Upwork, nor employees. Everyone is a self-employed freelancer, responsible for everything they do, including having a professional profile.

Your profile shows up in search results for your main skill category: "Brand Identity Design" with the only other search criteria selected as country: Ukraine

Unfortunately, it doesn't show up until page 53 for "Brand Identity Design." But this doesn't mean your profile will remain there.

Here are a few tips:

1) Remove "experienced" and "professional" from your title. Instead, use more skill categories like "Brand Identity Design" so that it matches skills categories in your skills list. For example, I would use something like: Graphic Designer | Brand Identity Design and Logo Design or Graphic Design | Corporate Brand Identity

2) Add Corporate Brand Identity and Graphic Design to your skills list since both are highly relevant to your work. This is especially important if you use both or either in your title. (I recommend using both in your title.) You may want to add one or two skill categories related to printing as well (i.e. Print Layout, Print Advertising).

3) The Alina Wheeler quote is nice, but it shouldn't appear first in your overview/summary. If you wish to keep it, move it to the middle or end of your summary. Why? Because when clients search for freelancers, only the first 200-225 characters of your summary are shown. This means you have very little space (approximately two short sentences) to get their attention. You want clients to see their goals (your services and results) in this small space--not quotes.

4) The two jobs for Reklamacentr in your employment history appear to be identical. I would remove one and update the job description for the other by adding more details (and maybe a few more skill categories/keywords). For example:

Led graphic design projects from concept to completion, ensuring the organization's creative vision aligned with client goals while managing timelines, resources, and team collaboration. As a key member of Reklamacentr, my job responsibilities included:

◉ Communicating effectively with customers to understand their needs and provide project updates
◉ Creating layouts and designs for various print products, ensuring high-quality visual presentation
◉ Developing corporate identities and brand books to establish cohesive branding strategies
◉ Managing and processing customer graphic design orders from initial inquiry to final delivery
◉ Preparing documentation for outdoor advertising projects
◉ Coordinating and placing outdoor advertisements on billboards and other advertising platforms

This role required strong design skills, attention to detail, and excellent customer service abilities.

The job description is especially important when the job is highly relevant to the services you provide on Upwork. Upwork uses keywords in job titles and descriptions to match you with relevant jobs.

5) You should also consider adding a project catalog. The project catalog allows you to setup a pre-packaged service that clients can buy without you sending a proposal. Due to the high number of requests for project catalogs, reviews and approvals may take 10+ days to complete. Read Get Started With Project Catalog for more information.
