No feedback given but my client wants to give that feedback. How do I do?

Hi, 

I have a client who's pretty happy about a job I've just made for him but he didn't give any feedback. He closed the contract by himself a few days ago and forgot about the feedback but he paid me perfectly. 

I'm pretty sure it's a new client with little experience so let's say, it's an inexperienced client. I insisted about the feedback but as there was something which had to be resolved first, he told something like: let's resolve that problem first and I'll write a good feedback after. 

As I understand it, if the freelancer closes the contract first giving a feedback or not, the client won't leave any feedback but on the contrary, if the client closes the contract first, he will leave a feedback or he will not and here's my problem. 

If I had a lot of jobs which is not the case yet, it wouldn't hurt my JSS a lot (even if it's not normal it would) but as I have had just a few jobs in months, it may be affect my JSS greatly (which is not, ny the way, transparently calculated)

So, I'd like to know what can be done about that.

Is there a way to upwork to give him manually that opportunity?

I would like yo know something else too. Is there a relation between the job amount and the JSS? what I mean by that is that an unhappy client of a 20$ contract is not the same as an unhappy client of a 200$ or 2000$ contract, right? both are not happy but the amount is so very important, they don't have the same weight.

No, you got it wrong.

Whoever closes the contract MUST leave feedback, be it the client or the freelancer.

Whoever did not close the contract, has 14 days to leave feedback, be it the client or the freelancer.

After the 14 days are up, the party who closed the contract can enable the other party, be it the client or the freelancer, to leave feedback by going to the closed contract and clicking on "Enable XYZ to change feedback"

I NEVER ask for or even mention feedback, ever, under any circumstances. I just make sure the client is the one to close the contract. That way feedback is guaranteed. Have you checked the actual contract? Maybe the client did leave feedback, it is just not showing on your profile yet.

There is a correlation between long or short term contracts and JSS. Long term ones count more heavily.

This is a once only function and is valid for only 14  days.

Get into the habit of encouraging the client to be the one to end the contract to make sure you get feedback.

PS - The client DID leave feedback. Leave the client alone, you got 5 stars!

You need to check on the CONTRACT - not your profile, it lags behind.

 You can "force" your profile to update by changing even the tiniest detail on your profile, such as a comma in your overview or even a space, then save. This will trigger a "refresh" and your profile will be up to date a few hours later, sometimes quicker.

In future you can see if, and what kind of feedback the client left you on the actual contract. That'll avoid all that anxiety 🙂
