How come less than 1/4 of my proposals even get viewed, especially when I apply to openings that have less than 5 current proposals? Also, I found my account is set to private, and I don't want that. Yet, it won't let me change it.

Are my proposals even getting through to the client?

I've spent good money on connects, that essentially go nowhere because I'm literally not even "connecting" with anyone.

Also the fact that UpWork has NO human support is quite suspect.

Many freelancers are struggling to get proposals views, profile views and invitations across several skill areas. There are several factors that could impact how or why your proposals are not being viewed but each situation is different.

You may want to post a message in the Support Forum requesting a moderator reset your profile to Public. If not, a moderator might eventually come along and view this thread and reset it for you.

I'm Expert Vetted, highly esteemed in my field and only around 50% of my proposals are even viewed.  I do suspect I have applied to many "fake" jobs that are posted to harvest Connects money.

No, it's not a thing, just a ridiculous accusation.

One possible reason why you're struggling to get jobs is because you aren't using a profile photo of yourself, which could lead to clients thinking that your account is fake or you're trying to hide something. It's also a ToS violation that could lead to your proposals being withdrawn and your account being suspended, because Upwork won't be able verify your identity. You need to fix this before you send any more proposals.

I've been wondering the same thing. I've spent a LOT on Connects and my proposals don't even get opened, let alone read. I've already heard the blah,blah about how you have to spend to grow your business, but I can spend $20 on YT & LinkedIn and I'll get views and conversions. The fact that we don't get our connects back, even on the scam postings, is very suspect. When I began asking questions my profile suddenly went to private. Go figure.
