I'm sorry to hear that your client is refusing to pay you. Here are a few things you can do:

    1. Politely remind your client that payment is due. In your message, be sure to include the agreed-upon price, the date of completion, and any other relevant information.
    2. If the client still refuses to pay, you can file a dispute with Upwork. Upwork will review the dispute and decide whether to award you payment.
    3. If Upwork does not award you payment, you can try to contact the client's bank or credit card company. You may be able to file a chargeback, which would reverse the payment and return the money to you.
    4. Keep good records. This includes keeping track of all communication with the client, as well as any deliverables that you have provided.
    5. Be aware of Upwork's policies. Upwork has a number of policies in place to protect freelancers, so be sure to familiarize yourself with them.

It's important to be professional and polite when dealing with a client who is refusing to pay. Avoid making threats or insults, as this will only make the situation worse. Instead, focus on explaining the situation clearly and calmly.

I hope this helps!

Be aware of Upwork's policies. Upwork has several policies in place to protect freelancers, so be sure to familiarize yourself with them.

I hope now this will help!

Sana, the freelancer will never be paid because he was never hired on Upwork. No one will help him. You are giving bad information.

Thank you for your input. I am simply trying to help someone politely, unlike someone.

I understand what you are trying to do, but giving accurate information is important.

I think you didn't read my first reply properly or didn't understand it. I never mentioned that he would get his payment for sure. He asked for help because his client is not paying, so I provided him with possible solutions that he can try. In the end, I did mention going through Upwork's policies to avoid such scams in the future.

If my information is bad in any way, you are free to provide a good one. Upwork is a platform for professionals, so I hope you understand that.

I did not understand how items 1 to 4 were relevant in this context where the client is a scammer.

1.It was never the intention of the scammer to pay at all. He only wanted to get the freelancer's money.

2.Dispute is not possible if there is no contract.

3.Freelancers do not have access to client's bank or credit card information.

4.Keeping track of communications that took place outside of Upwork is just a proof that there was a violation of Upwork's Terms of Service.

Re: I did a work for a client on Upwork

No, you worked for a scammer, you violated Upwork's Terms of Service by communicating outside Upwork and worked for nothing.

Re: He said the work was great but refused to pay me and is asking me to send $40 instead before l get payment.

-A real client will never ask you to pay to get paid

-Making/receiving payment oustide Upwork. This is another serious violation of Upwork's Terms. Your account can get suspended.

Best help a freelancer can get is to learn the rules before using Upwork.

I'm sorry to hear that. don't pay. It is a crime of fraud. but if you are sure and honest, you know Upwork does not license clients to request payment from freelancers other than using the up work application. Besides that, the client must pay the freelancer if the freelancer has finished the job. How logical is a client who needs a freelancer but the freelancer has to pay the client? obviously, this is a scam. and FYI another one is not allowing communication with clients through other media besides work unless there is a special agreement for freelancers for the long term. keep safe.
