Not Getting Hired

Hello.

It's not been a year since I am here on Upwork. As a not so new freelancer - I got a few jobs and in that there were 2 jobs which had a really bad impact on my JSS. I am trying my best to come out of the bad JSS and got a 2-3 jobs which had helped my JSS improve!

The problem is that after sending 15-20 proposals there is that one proposal that is viewed but not interviewed! There are times that I would think to quit and not send proposals anymore but the jobs are quite interesting and exciting to work on - which makes me feel to send a proposal and I apparently send it but obviously don't get the job!

I have no idea what I should do - I have tried every single thing but nothing works. Can anyone please help me and guide me to get some jobs and improve my JSS?

Thank You

Tahmeeda,

First, there is a lot of competition on Upwork, so getting hired can be a challenge. The competition has seemingly increased over the past two years due to the pandemic. Many people left their "traditional" jobs and are now freelancing through sites like Upwork.

If you have not tried it yet, maybe you can give the client a glimpse of your solution when you submit your proposal.  For example, instead of a simple proposal with a due date and your fee, you could provide a quick overview of your plan to mee the client's needs. This will often help the client get an idea of what great things are in store for them. This is not always possible, but it shows the client that you understand exactly what they need, and have been proactive in developing a solution for them.

Hello.

I've no idea why I am not getting hired by any client. I have also written very good proposals, have mentioned my price and a message for a meeting too but, obviously there's no response from the client's side! They do view my proposal but never give me the chance to win the job!

Also, I have been sending 5-10 proposals everyday and because of that my connects are mostly in the 0 quantity!

You have been socked with a bad review somewhere along the line. It can take quite a while to work that back up to a decent score.

One of the basic strategies here is to lower your rate and take as many quick jobs as you can. Stack up some excellent reviews to counter the bad one. You could also call Upwork and ask about the options to have a review removed. That used to be an option available under the right circumstances.
