Not been able to land a job in 2 years

Hello everyone,

I created my freelance account a couple of years ago and till this day I still haven't able to land a job, not even an interview. A couple of months ago I got really aggressive with my account, added a full bio, certifications and past work experience but that still didn't help me.  Is it normal for someone to not be able to land a gig or am I doing something wrong?

Arash:

You may need to consider the possibility that Upwork is not meant for you.

Don't take it personally. Upwork is not a good option for most people.

Sure maybe it's not meant to be but still, like to know why that is. I send proposals just like everyone else so what am I doing wrong?

We don't know how your proposals look, and you can't really assume that they look like anybody else's, or are better, or worse.

I suspect you send a generic text, don't look in-depth at the client information, don't spend time on tailoring your proposal at the job posting, and don't give the client a good feeling that you understand the job. Plus the profile pic is too unfriendly and not inviting.

You probably did not take freelancing very seriously if you only now added all the necessary info to create a complete profile to even get a chance to attract clients?

I admit my profile wasn't as complete as it is now but what about now that it is 100 percent?

like you took some advice and got a few jobs. Good for you. I think you can extend the information a bit, but the picture is indeed much improved.

Arash A.

I've been working through Upwork for 2 years pretty steadily. I would suggest to you that your profile is insufficient. If you look at mine, it reads more like a resume with a bunch of detail. The idea is that people can scope me out. I see you have an external link to a github page, but frankly I'm not even sure where to start reading it. If those links are to code, that might not be helping you as people seeking help with SEO may not even know how it works, and that will be why they need help.

The SEO test score isn't blindingly impressive and I'm not sure of the SEO rates for most, but I'd find out if that is in line with reality. Your selfie (I know, I'm one to talk, but I have my picture for a reason) looks like you are grumpy. Swap it out for something that suggests some energy and enthusiasm.

Ratings are important...I don't see one for you. You are fresh out of school, pretty much. In other words, there seems to be a cobination of factors working against you. That's to say nothing about not having seen your application attempts. You've got to sell yourself, and if you aren't doing that, you are just selling a rate and a one-line resume. That's selling lemonaide in Antarctica.

SEO is in demand, so there should be work for you. I started out here lowballing offers till I got a few positive reviews from clients and then (with a few mistakes in between) boosted my rate to something reasonable for what I do. If you've ever seen the movie 'Field of Dreams' the idea is nice, but it isn't what I've experienced in reality. You've got to build it and present it and rebuild it again.

I hope that helps!
