I've been on Upwork for over 2 years, but unfortunately, I've never been able to land a client through the platform.
Despite putting effort into crafting creative and easy-to-understand proposals, I've sent out over 50 of them without success.
Interestingly, the only client I did manage to get was someone I already knew outside of Upwork, whom I then invited to join the platform.
As an experienced mobile developer, I already have a job and work with clients in the real world. So, I'm not a beginner in the field.
I just want to understand what I might be doing wrong that discourages clients from choosing to work with me.
This is my profile, by the way:

One thing that discourages potential clients is a lack of details. Your profile summary does not have enough information to convince clients to hire you. Everything in your summary is typical of most--if not all--experienced mobile app developers. To make your summary more appealing, provide a few details that go beyond app development skills since most mobile app developers have the same skills. For example:
There are thousands of mobile app developers on Upwork. The question is: do they have enough good reasons to choose Aimen? Clients are spending money, and they often need more than just skills to choose you; they need other reasons that bring value, and the information you provide can help them better understand why they should hire you and how it will benefit them.
A few more notes about your profile:
1) Capitalize the first letter of each word in your title; this will help it stand out a little more: Mobile & Back-End Developer. Also, when using terms like "back-end," "front-end," or "full-stack," use the industry standard spelling, which uses a hyphen. Upwork only uses these words with hyphens and you want Upwork's algorithms to see "back-end" instead of "backend."
2) The link in your E-book application portfolio item is broken. The other two portfolio items: e-commerce app and
transport & logistic company app need more detailed descriptions. The descriptions should not be long, but should provide enough detail for clients to understand the purpose of the app, the intended audience, and steps you took to build it.
3) I recommend updating your skills list with skill categories that clients are more likely to use in searches. For example, clients might search Mobile App Design and Mobile App Development before searching Database (a broad term) or Dart (a programming language many clients may have never heard of). In fact, many clients don't care which tools are used to build an app--they just need it built.
4) Add a short job description to your position at Rapidum Services in your employment history. A job description is especially important when the job is highly relevant to the services you provide on Upwork (i.e., mobile app development).
The most important improvement you can make is your profile summary. Once you add more substance to it, clients will have a better understanding of your services and your value, which might keep them on your profile longer.

I understand your frustration with not landing clients on Upwork despite your efforts. It's important to tailor your proposals to each job, highlighting relevant skills and addressing the client's specific needs. Seeking feedback and engaging in the Upwork community can also help improve your chances. Stay persistent, and I'm confident you'll see results soon. Best of luck!

You can do nothing but have a patience. I had spend connects but hardly got one or two clients at the beginning and I was working with one of them frequently. There is also an incident when I was hired, contract started, we had a meeting, he send me his working file. I was just about to start but then the proposal was declined. I had to stay positive. Then one morning, when I woke up, I got an offer from an unknown client. He was waiting for my positive response. It was unexpected. That was the only time when I did not had to spend my connects. Since then, I am keeping patience. I always use to think like, "Don't worry, you had never thought about that morning as well". So, have faith in yourself and be positive.

Hi Aimen S ❤
I'm sorry to hear about your experience on Upwork. It sounds like you're putting in effort and have valuable skills to offer, so let's explore some possible reasons why you might not be landing clients:
1. **Profile Optimization**: Take a critical look at your profile to ensure it effectively showcases your skills, experience, and expertise. Make sure your portfolio is up-to-date with relevant projects and examples of your work. Consider adding any certifications or qualifications that could strengthen your profile.
2. **Proposal Quality**: While you mentioned crafting creative and easy-to-understand proposals, it's possible there's room for improvement. Tailor each proposal to the specific job and client, demonstrating your understanding of their needs and how you can solve their problems. Highlight your relevant experience and skills that make you the best fit for the job.
3. **Pricing**: Evaluate your pricing strategy to ensure it's competitive within your industry and aligns with the value you provide. Consider offering introductory rates or special packages to attract clients initially and build your reputation on the platform.
4. **Visibility**: Increase your visibility on the platform by regularly updating your profile, bidding on relevant jobs, and engaging with the Upwork community. Participate in forums, answer questions, and network with other freelancers and clients to expand your reach.
5. **Client Reviews**: Since you've successfully worked with a client outside of Upwork, consider asking them to leave a review on your profile. Positive reviews and testimonials can enhance your credibility and trustworthiness to potential clients.
6. **Specialization**: Consider narrowing down your focus or specializing in a specific niche within mobile development. This can help you stand out from the competition and attract clients looking for expertise in that area.
7. **Patience and Persistence**: Building a successful freelance career on Upwork takes time and persistence. Keep refining your approach, learning from each proposal you submit, and don't get discouraged by rejection. Stay patient and keep working towards your goals.
By addressing these areas and continuously refining your approach, you can increase your chances of landing clients on Upwork. Don't hesitate to reach out to Upwork's support team or community for additional guidance and assistance.
