Number of proposals???

I just bid on a job, and when I click on the job page from the main feed it says there are three proposals. However, when I view the job through my Proposals column, it says under "Activity for this job" that there are 13 applicants. Is this a glitch? Are there ten applicants whose names/profiles I'm not allowed to see? I feel it would help me improve my proposals and my profile if I was able to view who I am truly in competition with.

This is probably what happened.

Job is posted.

Upwork emails freelancers in that category and tells them the job was just posted and to act fast.

3 of them applied.

In the meantime, the client has clicked the send invitation button and the 10 recommended freelancers are emailed.

Then you applied making the total 14.

The proplem is the stats for the job do not change for about 10-15 minutes.

Then everyone who has just applied shows up in the list.

It will update eventually, I can only guess that they're using https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eventual_consistency .

Well, it is what it is and it's pretty much the same for everyone else.  You could opt for their paid membership to view the high/low bids, if that helps.

We shouldn't have to pay to see the names and profiles -- which I'm more interested in than how much they bid because my rate is my rate.

You don't pay to see names and profiles. If you have truly applied to any job here you would know that??

If a job has 20 applicants you can see them all, except for those who personally hide their profile.

The only thing added with a membership is seeing the amount of the highest bid, the amount of the lowest bid and the average of all the bids which is of course useless.

So before you post information that is incorrect and then choose your answer as the best answer please get your facts straight. Others depend on that information to be accurate.

I clicked Accept by accident and couldn't undo it. That was completely unintentional.

Are you saying that a client can see how many proposals I have made? Do they then look at how many jobs have been completed? And will they see that number if I archive the proposal?

If so, that would be unfair. They should be able to see how many jobs I've completed and how I have been rated. I am surprised that they can see how much I was paid (which I guess I can get rid of if I pay the membership fee.

I think it's kind of glitch. Cached version of number in the Proposals page updates more frequently than cached version of list of applicants from a job page.

P.S. Umm... I still think that renaming an application to a proposal wasn't a great idea. Now we send proposals but we are applicants. I thought an applicant is a person who has sent an application, not a proposal. The renaming has created more mess and gave no advantages.

Eh, I feel like that's just an odd word choice that means the same thing. (I prefer "bid", which has different connotations, but that's nitpicking.)

In some cases, the number of 'proposals' displayed will also vary depending on whether one's logged in or out. Just 3 examples from 3 different job postings I saw yesterday:

  • Logged in: 176
  • Logged out: 187

  • Logged in: 29
  • Logged out: 43

  • Logged in: 2
  • Logged out: 6

In some cases, you'll be able to see these differences while the page is loading .

Well, I just noticed a problem which I want to highlight.

I have applied for a job, there is a difference in a number of proposals in Job posting page and after you submit your proposal, both are the same time.

Why this difference?????
