Open contracts that have been inactive for a long time DO affect the JSS ?

Hi,

i have a lot of open job.  after finishing our 1st /2nd /3rd or more milstone client are not responding a long time.  Many times, I contact inactive clients and they say something like, "I don't have time or money for another milestone right NOW, but sometime SOON I'll need more work. Let's keep the contract open."

As a freelancer, i don't want to loose the opportunity for more work, nor want to insult my client by insisting they close the contract. for this  i need to keep the contract, which works against my JSS.

what should i do now??

No, it doesn't.

 Open contracts with money paid in the past don't hurt the JSS.

You could just close contracts that are really old yourself from time to time, to reduce the number. Just don't close too many at once. Close one or two of the oldest ones which clearly ARE long dead, wait a while, close one or two more and so on.
