Opt-out period in Terms of Service

In order to avoid the opt out fee you have to work with a client for 2 years according to the terms of service. Can anyone tell me if the time period used to be shorter? I swear at some point it was 18 months.

Hi Kathy,

Thank you for your message. Effective April 3, 2020, new updates to our Terms of Service were made to provide more clarity and ease if users want to take their relationship outside of Upwork. These changes renamed what was formerly the Opt Out Fee to the Upwork Conversion Fee and simplified the calculation to 12% of estimated 12 month earnings. However, the 24 months requirement to avoid the conversation fees was unchanged. Check out this help page for more information.
