Hi There 

The money in my upwork account was recently transferred to paypal 
When logging in to paypal no transactions have appeared at all. My email account is also linked to my business partners details and not mine (didn't realise this until today)
So I am assuming this is part of the issue? 

My solution is to close that particular paypal account and open a new one with my email and my details - do you think this would work? Or is there I chance I may lose my money?

You can proceed with your approach of creating your personal PayPal account and linking it as a withdrawal method to your Freelancer's account on Upwork.
