Phone or Skype before working

Hi

I have a question to you fellow freelancers.

Do you do Skype interviews or calls before being awarded a project?

It happens now and then that clients ask for it. And I find it difficult.

Not only that I feel so much better to write about the job. But also to speak and even show up in a video talk.

( I have never done it. And won't)

Is it common to do that before awarded a project? And it is allowed ?

I will do it. I don't have a camera on my desktop so video isn't an option. I have a camera on my laptop, but they don't need to know that part.
