Possible to hide left panel of messenger that lists contacts? Enhancement request?

I did a search, no luck.  It seems implausible that this has not been discussed, so maybe my search was poor, or I just don't know how to do what can be done.

But in the messenger, the left panel seems to be unhidable, which lists a whole bunch of clients, basically confidential information.  So if I am on the clock and messaging the client, then the tracker may take snapshots and ultimately share my client list with that client.  

This seems very inappropriate to me.  Is there some way that I don't understand, to hide that left panel in the messenger?

Go to the message room for the project and it will only display that message thread. (My Jobs/project in question/Messages and Files)
