Potential client sent me a link to a survey

A potential client sent me a message and she asked me to complete a survey (she sent me a link to surveymonkey)

I want to confirm that this violates Upwork ToS

thanks.

This is a violation of Upwork TOS.

Clients are not allowed to ask freelancers to work for free.

Clients are not allowed to ask freelancers to fill out surveys for free.

This client is not planning to pay you any money ever,

The client needs to send you an official Upwork contract offer and you need to accept the offer first so that you can get paid for filling out the survey.

Thank you!!! I was not sure about the survey. What confused me is that the client has positive reviews.

They are using the survey as a first filter/inverview I believe.

That is different than using the survey as a survey in and of itself.

I still don't like the idea of hiring freelancers that way.

But if this is a client who is really hiring people, it may be beneficial to answer questions, as long as you're not providing contact information.

Hi Victoria,

Thank you for reaching out to us. If the survey is asking you to provide personal contact information, then yes this is against ToS. We highly recommend not working with a client unless a contract is already in place, and milestones have been funded if it's a fixed-price contract.
