Profile View Drop in Stats

How many highly experienced Freeelancers have seen their Profile Views in Stats drop precipitouisly in the last few weeks?  Mine has gone from 60-70 to 7.

We continue to investigate why many of you see the decline in profile views and very low number of profile views for today.

Can it be that Upwork changed the search algorithm? When I search the first 6 words of my title (Adobe Photoshop Mock-Up Adobe Illustrator) as a whole I come up at the 3rd page after a "front end developer", an "IOS Android developer", a "motion graphic designer" and even a "sublimation designer".

When I search the first 6 words of Petra's title she comes up 3rd after a "singing project manager"

I don't know what to say. This wasn't like this a couple of months ago. What are you trying to do?

I am with everyone on this thread, and was just about to post a new question asking if folks have seen a dramatic drop in invites since June time frame. I keep paying the $10 a month but I'm questioning it seriously as I was receiving a ton of invites prior to June-ish and I think I've received less than 5 since then (one which may have been SPAM, not sure.) None of the ones I've been invited to have I been awarded either - most haven't even hired.

I can't help but think I'd be better off saving my money. Last I checked I couldn't find myself when I searched for the keywords I'm trying to rank for after 30 pages of results! I was found 2 times last week (+100%). I'll be curious to hear what Upwork says on this thread as I'd love for the platform to be a part of my business development strategy, and I've sunk a lot of time into making a good profile, but I'm genuinely feeling like I'm wasting my money and disheartened.

It was really helpful to see how many highly ranked freelancers were on this thread as well and how they feel they hardly ever get views. I keep wondering what happened.

Sidenote: there was a webinar I wanted to attend months back and couldn't because of the set time. I followed up twice and asked for a recording so I can watch on my own time, and never heard back a peep from anyone at Upwork.

Unless you want and need extra connects and a swanky custom URL, there's no reason to pay for premium. Save yourself $10.

Thanks Tonya - I think I will. I can't remember if I initially wanted to just make sure I had the connect. I thought also that it featured you in the search results but you would be invisible (i.e. could only bid on proposals) if you weren't paying.

Upwork, I've heard those little blue pills work wonders. Just sayin ... Smiley Tongue

Nichola, thanks pal; dribbling iced espresso ...

My stats:

Your profile was discovered 15 timeslast week.(+15%from the previous week) > graph shows ZERO views.

Well, at least it's a relief to hear it's not just me.

This is now:

This is (more or less) same time last year (I take screenshots from time to time for posterity):

Sad stuff, Upwork, sad stuff.

Same situation here, though I haven't been as active sending proposals in the last two weeks as I normally am. Proposals submitted seems to drive my views. But I don't think I've seen a week at only 3 views for over a year.

Hi! The same here.

Day four 5 with 0 profile views.

This is a new record. So far, 3 consecutive days was the worst I had seen.

The graph is screwed up and should not be believed.

Mine says "0 views" but I had invites so must have been viewed.

I believe those stats are correct...

In the past 90 days, I've applied to 60 jobs - not a single answer ๐Ÿ˜‰
I've been invited to 4 jobs -   no answer there, either.

My profile has 0 views for the past 3 weeks

good thing is - I have enough clients not to worry about upwork  - but  I will stop paying $10 for the premium membership - it's simply not worth it...

And now a new twist.  I always respond to invites immediately, yet my responsiveness time has dropped.  I double checked and there are NO invites that weren't responded to within a couple of hours.  Sigh.

Did you respond to anything within the last 24 hours? That always lags behind.

I responded to 3 today, tomorrow it will have caught up. That has always been this way.

Thanks, Petra.  That might be it.  Interesting that I still have no profile views but several invitations in the last 48 hours or so.

Same here, so clearly we get the views, they are just not counted.

Kicking this thread back to page one (1) of the Freelancer Forum as we wait ... patiently or not ... for information on when this issue will be corrected.

Wendy ... surely you know that wait times now extend not into days, but weeks. I don't think it's a coincidink that our stats got messed up right after the recent "missing stats" issue. They fix one thing, and in the process, break something else.

And I won't call you Shirley. ๐Ÿ˜„

Mods,

Maybe UW thinks this Profile Views Stat is without any value to Freelancers so they have no urgency in getting their obvious bug they recently created getting fixed.

I, for one, consistently use it to evaluate the frequency of Proposals and the types of Jobs I propose on.

Because my hourly rate turns off the majority of Job Posters,  I always use up my monthly allotment of connects and this bug is costing me $ (usually over $100 a month) for additional connects.

Just found that clients have to have "plus" accounts to filter by Top Rated. Perhaps another reason for lower views as there is more for them to filter through.

Scott, that reminds me of a feature that I believe was implemented a while back, where once X many Top Rated freelancers apply to a job, it's removed from the job feed, or something like that. I'd really like to hear what the justification is for denying basic plan clients a Top Rated search filter.

I think you probably just nailed it, Scott.

Possibly, but I'm a relative newb around here with no top rated status and my views have gone from several weeks of being in the 1-3 range to being glued at 0 for many days now...could be a coincidence though

I'm now at two consecutive weeks of "0" profile views. That has never happened before. I'm hoping it's wrong.

And, hoping to hear an answer soon as my responses from applications and even ongoing interviews has been unusually low in the past two weeks.

John B,

It is clearly wrong as scores of Freelancers, including me, having been consistently and continuously reporting the same issue of Profile Views being reported as ZERO.

Why Upwork has not managed to either fix the issue or explain when they will is particularly distressing and causing an increasing lack of confidence that is costing Upwork and, perhaps, Freelancers money because we have no basis to measure the effect of our Proposals.

And for the third time: As people who look at your profile from a proposal are excluded from that graph / number you can not use that thing as a basis to measure the effect of your proposals and never have been able to use it for that.

Repeating something that is completely false does not miraculously make it any more true every time it is repeated.

I have 0 profile views too. I hope that UP will fixed it

uh oh. No wonder. That's pretty terrible. idk what someone there was thinking when they thought that would be a good idea.

eta: for real, is this true? cuz if so I might just go out and curb stomp my rating and force it below 90% cuz this is terrible.

Joe, I don't see how it is costing you money considering the graph does not include anyone you send a proposal to...

Petra,

If I can't see the resulting Profile Views, which are in proportion to the quantity and quality of my Proposals, I can't determine if my Proposals are effective enough to warrant a Profile View.

I get very few Invites.  Most of my Jobs are in response to a Proposal.

My approach, at last in the past, seems to be effective as I usually bill from $500-$1,000 a week. Lifetime earnings on UW = $70,000+.

If Profile Views are high, my Proposals must have been interesting to prospects.  If  Profile Views drop off, my rate may be too high for the season or type of Job and I can modify.

For the last week, I just see -0-.

I find it very strange that they can't fix this and wonder, like some others, what is really going on.

Joe, as I said above, the "times discovered" do **NOT** include people whose jobs you have applied to.

So it tells you absolutely nothing about the quality or effectiveness of your proposals. Zilch. Nada. Because people who look at your profile as a result of your proposals are not counted. At all.

It just tells you when you were nearer the top of the visibility rotation. If you have been using it to determine proposal effectiveness you've wasted your time.

I totally agree it needs fixing, but it does not cost you any money and it does not even do what you thought it does (when it does it.)

What Petra said. I would add that the relevant statistic for your purpose is (I believe) "You've applied to N jobs in the past 90 days. Compared to your peers: ....You were viewed..." That said I find the bars in that section hard to interpret and of dubious value.

I think they must be chasing some metric or set of metrics that have nothing to do with optimizing the platform for client-FL transactions and relationships, and everything to do with what UW thinks will make it an attractive investment/acquisition prospect. So they don't prioritize the items that we tell them are undermining commerce and instead, focus on such genius notions as slowly rolling out a supposedly advantageous verified ID badge; creating the new m'ship tiers for clients; letting TS meddle in clients' proposal lists; capping the number of TR bids on a project; and, not least, the ongoing refusal to adequately vet new FLs and profiles before letting them jump in and start making costly mistakes--costly for the FLs, sometimes for their clients, and always for the platform. Hordes of clueless newbies/ninnies who suck up masses of CS bandwidth while earning nothing, do nobody any good.

Scott's comment "Clients have to have "plus" accounts to filter by Top Rated. Perhaps another reason for lower views as there is more for them to filter through" and John's follow-up deserve answers. The FLers impacted are the ones who keep U's lights on ...

We need to keep in mind that no client has ever been able to filter by Top Rated, which is a brand new (and yes, paid) feature. The only comparable filter, which is stillโ€”

  • free
  • turned on by default

โ€”is a minimum JSS of 90.

There is no basis for comparing views before and after this (possibly faltering) feature was rolled out, or correlating it with the technical problem with the profile view graph (which I understand has been fixed and improved).

Still flatlining.

Screen Shot 2019-03-02 at 09.19.52.png

After I swore I wouldn't look anymore, I did.  Still flatlined BUT I've had more invitations this week than I've had in two months previously.  So clearly, there's just a bug in reporting views.
