Profile View Drop in Stats

How many highly experienced Freeelancers have seen their Profile Views in Stats drop precipitouisly in the last few weeks?  Mine has gone from 60-70 to 7.

So, I've gotten several invites (inappropriate but that's beside the point) but with zero views?

Avery,

From 61 to 4.

Have you received a response from the "Team"?

Joseph and others,

We are still looking into this and may not have complete information until after the weekend.

I would just like to address Isabelle's questions and clarify that profile views stats reflect the number of distinct people who have viewed your profile tile in search results.

And what does it count?  All views or just views by clients?  I ask because one FL said she viewed my profile but I'm still at zero views.

Mary,

As Valeria mentioned: "profile views stats reflect the number of distinct people who have viewed your profile tile in search results". I don't think I qualify as a "distinct" person because there's no search involved ... only clicking on your name.

ETA: It's kind of amazing (and scary) how many major fails have happened in only 2 months into the new year.

Maybe if they divide the company into two different sites things start to work better. They can even call one Elance and the other O-desk. (...and a comeback for rent-a-coder/vworker just for the sake of competition.)

Just checked -- me too! 0 views ... now come on, it can't be denied that something strange is going on that's affecting most (?) of us.

(Thanks, Valeria, for addressing my questions.)

I was going to say something about how you shouldn't look at those stats because so many things affect it -- and I have so many questions about views ... If you view your own profile logged out (or even logged in), does it count as a view? Do views include people who visit your profile through the forums? Does repeatedly visiting a profile within a short period of time (e.g., within 1, 5, 15 minutes) count as one view or separate views? etc.

But then I checked my stats, and like others I had a sharp decrease in early Feb, and it's still going down. Maybe something is going on?

Your profile was discovered 0 times last week. (-100% from the previous week)

Sigh again.

Aw, Mary ... I just went and looked at your profile. Let me know if that helps any. :smileytongue:

Mary,

Bless your heart.

II couldn't resis,t but I mean it.

No doubt in my mind this is yet another UW bug.

Joe, bless your heart right back.  Given my field of endeavor, I never have a lot of views anyway and 99% of my invitations are suitable for lawyers, but not for paralegals.  Or they want either patent or immigration experience of which I have none.

Isabelle's questions deserve answers.  Just for FWIW.  Without that knowledge the stat is nebulous at best ...

I'm jelly at how you're killing it on LinkedIn. I did get 2 great leads from people who directly contacted me. One of them I'm kicking myself for losing because he contacted me at 8pm and I had already been drinking and waited until morning but it was too late. BOO. Oh well, such is life.

My profile views have dropped down to ZERO frequently in the past 6 months. And stayed like that for several days in a row. But then again, I've never had more than 18. Ever.

My invites have also reached a new low: 12 in the past 90 days. When before I got 20-30/month. That combined with Upwork's recent shenanigans plus unrealistic client expectations equals good times indeed.

ETA: It's been 0 views now for the third day in a row.

Whether this has anything to do with the "graph", I couldn't possibly say, but I've had lots of invites nearly always for the wrong language pair (and so possibly, I get  more viewings). Upwork needs to work on the language  categories and the  attendant (necessary) language pairs.

If a very well-known, very successful language platform can do it, then Upwork could possibly do it too; I have to say, though, that  this seems to be even more doubtful now than it was nearly ten years ago when I joined. In fact when Upwork was oDesk, languages and their pairings were more precise than they are now.

I am with everyone on this thread, and was just about to post a new question asking if folks have seen a dramatic drop in invites since June time frame. I keep paying the $10 a month but I'm questioning it seriously as I was receiving a ton of invites prior to June-ish and I think I've received less than 5 since then (one which may have been SPAM, not sure.) None of the ones I've been invited to have I been awarded either - most haven't even hired.

I can't help but think I'd be better off saving my money. Last I checked I couldn't find myself when I searched for the keywords I'm trying to rank for after 30 pages of results! I was found 2 times last week (+100%). I'll be curious to hear what Upwork says on this thread as I'd love for the platform to be a part of my business development strategy, and I've sunk a lot of time into making a good profile, but I'm genuinely feeling like I'm wasting my money and disheartened.

It was really helpful to see how many highly ranked freelancers were on this thread as well and how they feel they hardly ever get views. I keep wondering what happened.

Sidenote: there was a webinar I wanted to attend months back and couldn't because of the set time. I followed up twice and asked for a recording so I can watch on my own time, and never heard back a peep from anyone at Upwork.

Marian,

Just FYI, only one mod (Avery) has responded to this thread. The rest of us are freelancers like you. Mods have the Upwork logo on their posts.

Sorry - meant to say freelancers who were highly rated and prominent in the Upwork community. I'll update my original post.

Hi Marian,

We'll update this thread once we have more information about the main issue.

I'd just like to address your question about the webinar. Webinar recordings are posted here.

Thank you Valeria. I'll look for it there.

I can't find "How to earn your first 1k on Upwork" on the link you sent me to. Do you have that one posted somewhere?

Hi Marian,

You may refer to this post for the webinar you are looking for.

Adding another voice...

There is def.something wrong with the # of views stat.

Valeria,

Is is not time for another Update?  Now it seems all responders to this post are seeing zero Profile Views.

Hi Joseph,

Thank you for the gentle follow-up. At this time, investigation is still in progress. If we have any significant information we can share with the Community, we'll make sure to update this thread.

I went from 13 views on 2/5 to to 2 on 2/12 to 1 on 2/19 to 0 now. My views are almost always in the low teens. I have always attributed my low views to my rate, expecting clients might be selecting a lower range but I've also always shook my head at the money UW is leaving on the table. Like so many of you, I've had good success on this platform and have created zero issues over many years for UW or their CS in terms of disputes, etc. Yet my views remain at joke levels. I fully support the need to create views for new freelancers as of course I was one once. But I'll say again that they leave a lot of money on the table by not better handling those that cost them little but give them much. That aside and it indeed does seem that there is something even more wrong than usual.

Hi Avery,

Since this bug/issue of Profile Views being reported by Upwork to Freelancers at or close to 0 has been going on now for several days, it is fair to ask for specific assurances from Upwork that Proposals are, in fact,  being presented to Clients and that actual Profile Views are, in fact, being seen by such potential Clients.

As I confirmed earlier on this thread profile views metric reflects the number of distinct people who have viewed your profile tile in search results. That's why it's possible for a freelancer to receive invites that won't correspond with these profile views. For example a client could send an invite by accessing the freelancer's profile via a direct link, from Saved Freelancer's page, from older proposal, etc. Viewing a freelancer's profile from their proposal is also not included in this metric.

We continue to investigate why many of you see the decline in profile views and very low number of profile views for today.

Valeria, if it helps with troubleshooting - all three of my invites were from clients who I have never applied to, have never worked with and never had any dealings with. So they must have "discovered" my profile.  This is why I believe the counter is not working rather than people not being "discovered"

Considering the invites I am receiving no one is looking at my profile, they are all random invites.

Petra and Jennifer, same for me.  New clients, both to me and to Upwork.  One indicated that he found my profile a few minute after posting his job this morning.

I resolve to forget about this completely as I actually have TWO proposals out there at once, both from invites, and both appropriate to my skill set.  I'll take that over having accurate stats any day of the week.

The same here. I had not checked.
3 interviews, 0 visits.

I do not add the link of my profile in the proposals. And clients have told me that they have seen my profile, then?

What about clients simply inviting the freelancers UW (an algorithm) suggests? That would explain the 2 invites I received as clearly both clients hadn't looked at my profile prior to inviting me. Which is the norm - not an exception.
