Profile Views and Invites Decline

Hello Friends,

Recently, my account was promoted to "Top-Rated." Since the promotion, however, my profile views and invitations have continued to decline steadily. Is this a usual occurrence? Or is it just a December thing?

Thanks.

I believe that many clients go for new freelancers, without a JSS, based on the thinking that they might get a cheaper price. I might be wrong, but many people have reported their business to get less after being top rated. It might also be that the ones that don't experience this don't report it here. But finally, it could be just perception, meaning that people expect a big increase in business when being top rated, and that just doesn't happen.

It's usually the other way round.

As Top Rated you could even get invitations from the Talent Specialists now.

It's a December thing.

Upwork also rotates the freelancers who appear at the top of searches. So sometimes you're up, sometimes you're down.

Yes Sarah.

I noticed it also depends on what browser and platform you're using.

Interesting, right? 😉

Martina, that's absolutely right.

Some are after the cheapest things (many are freelancers outsourcing bits of their work to others) and some are after the true top-notch guys.

I guess, what Rodgers should take into account is that the Top Rated profile should not be getting mixed up in the market of the affordable ones and clearly be hitting the top-dollar class.

Falling in between would be pretty bad. Meaning, the high-end clients see you as not a real expert worth big bucks and those clients looking for ordinary things see you as too expensive. You'd fall between markets, kind of.

I think it's mainly this. Some freelancers are so anxious to get the badge, then end up disappointed when they realise that it doesn't make much of a difference. They don't realise that gazillions of other freelancers are also top-rated, so it doesn't help you stand out.

It might even be more advantageous to be rising talent, because they maybe send you stuff to make sure you get "hooked" on UW, and it's a smaller pool.

But I definitely think invitations are cyclical. Sometimes I get tons, sometimes I get none.
