Can someone explain the bid field that forces us to choose a project duration from a dropdown?
Sometimes, the client specifies this and I just select what they've selected, but often it's impossible to guess at the scope of the client's needs.
What's the purpose of having us attempt to guess at the client's timeline in the bid? Is this intended to indicate the duration of our ability? If so, perhaps renaming that field would be helpful?
Or, am I the only one this doesn't make sense to?
It's Upwork, so don't waste time trying to have it explained. It just is....
BUT, it's kind of irrelevant -- the thing that really matters is that the duration is agreed in communication between the client and the freelancer.
The "scope of a client's needs" must be presumed to be infinite. Focus on the scope of the job as defined, and give your timeline, not the client's, for when you can fit such a job into your schedule. If there are missing variables that could shorten or extend that timeline, describe and/or ask about them in your proposal.
