Public Feedback

Hello folkes,

A few days ago I was hired on a project. Client asked me whether I could deliver her within that day and hopefully I gave her the first draft just within a few hours. In the next few hours she asked me for some changes and did so. When our discussed task was completed she asked for some different and additional design on that file which I was not good at and I told her politely that I wouldn't be able to help her on that new variation. And she thanked me anyway. And then I asked her to close that project if she hadn't any other tasks to be done. But when she did I noticed that she gave me a very bad feedback saying "Poor Communication" and ""Unable to perform an additional graphic design piece that I need that wasn't part of the original contract."" . Now please tell me how was it possible ?? It was totally a misjudge on me. What if anyone does this to any freelancer because UPWORK will count it either way, won't it ? Please give me right passage. Thanks.

I am so sorry this happened to you! It happened to me too about a year ago. Same scenario - a super rush job, some edits, delivered successfully, client was happy and then returned with something else which I declined becasue I was about to go out for the evening and couldn't meet her next "rush: deadline. And same outcome, she slammed me in feedback. A horrible experence. Fortunately, I was able to remove the feedback with the top rated status. And, in addition I learned some valuable lessons. NEVER take on a rush job unless with an established client, then I go above and beyond every time. And, vet every client meticulously and fully until any and every concern I have about THEM is answered. Remember, you are "hiring" them as well in a way. Is this somebody you fully trust and want to work with? It is slanted completely to the client on Upwork so you have to be extremely careful who you let in. I hope you get some resolution!

Hi Rohan,

Sorry to hear the contract wasn't completed successfully. You may continue communicating with your client and you may ask them to change their feedback on that job, please read more how to do that on this help article. You can check this post for more options of how to deal with negative feedback such as replying to it or enabling the client to change it. Thank you!

Upwork

This is one of the times when Upwork is out of line. The freelancer delivered what was agreed. He was honest about not being able to complete additional work - scope creep - and now has to put up with insulting feedback, and then when he comes to the forum for help, gets a less than helpful answer from Upwork.

This is where the algorithm falls flat on its face and is entirely unfair. The freelancer should be helped. His JSS should not be zapped by a client who is clearly not in conciliatory mode, and why is the onus on the freelancer to fix something outside of his remit?

Yes ma'am, this is really helpless. I gave her what she asked for but she offered me some extra amount for that additional editing. I know I could do that too but to keep in mind about the quality I couldn't assure her the best , that's why I refused. And finally it came up with a disturbing feedback. And the most frustrating thing is I have nothing to do here. It means that a client can play with a freelancer whatever he/she is upto , doesn't matter whether the work was completed perfectly or not. It's really hard to be a victim of a crazy mind.

Hi,

I just completed a job with 5-star rating but it neither the job nor feedback is visible on my profile. I need this to cross 90% JSS mark.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Aditya,

We have updated your profile and the feedback is now posted. Thanks!

Hi there
I have the same problem. A client gave me 5 stars and a positive feedback on my work and it's not visible in my profile. As it was my first job on upwork it would be so helpful to kickstart. Could you please help and make the clients feedback visible?
Thank you!

Well Rohan, beside giving he option to the buyer of changing their feedback there is nothing you can do.  No one at Upwork will help you - they don't have the resources to examine every case and make a determination.

I know it sucks, but experienced buyers know how to squeeze a freelancers and if they don't get their way they are not ashamed to harm them.  The most you can do now is to respond to that feedback and leave your feedback for the buyer.

Your rate is too low....

Prashant is right.

Respond to this client's incorrect feedback about you with factual information that will let other freelancers know what they are exposing themselves to when agreeing to work with this clown.

Just fyi, this post is from May 2018 ... probably not much to be done at this point.

Ya think, Virginia?
